Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Basically blaming the workers for not being happy with their lot.

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 49 points 1 week ago

Not paying a living wage and terrible work conditions.....Have you tried mindfulness?

[–] einkorn@feddit.org 74 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Apparently there is no English translation but author and comedian Jean-Philippe Kindler wrote a book called "Fuck self-love, give me class struggle" about this exact phenomenon.

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (5 children)

"Jean-Philippe" doesn't really sound german

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 34 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Wanna hear something crazy? French people can interbreed with German people.

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's how you get Frenchman and Germench.

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago

I enjoy that Germensch just sounds like German people in German

[–] 3rdXthecharm@lemmy.ml 19 points 1 week ago

That's obscene

[–] Haaveilija@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

😱🀯

[–] Bad@jlai.lu 13 points 1 week ago

I have an Italian name but was born and live in France, names are arbitrary.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Meanwhile, Jean-Luc Picard has an English accent.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

That's the universal translator at work. Once you order Earl Grey so many times, it just assumes you want an English accent.

At least that was my comfortable little headcanon before that episode of Picard.

Must be from Strasbourg...

You think only Americans can give their kids pretentious special snowflake first names?

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In sociology, we call it false consciousness. We are constantly being conditioned by popular culture, to support and look up to the ruling classes. People even vote to give them more power.

[–] wraekscadu@vargar.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Interesting! Is there any way to combat this "false consciousness"?

If you realize your employer is full of BS, you’re already there.

Take it further, and watch out in media for statements like β€œMarket downturn makes Billionaire Bob millions poorer.” Bob the Billionaire will never be poor, and we shouldn’t give a shit about Bob’s billions in wealth that won’t change his day one iota.

Or… β€œlabor costs are the reason we are losing money.” While handing the c-suite bonuses.

Or… β€œif you take a vacation you’ll be hurting the team.”

If Books Could Kill did a great episode on this. "Who Moved My Cheese"

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

[off topic]

This book is actually useful. "Discover What You Are Best At" by Linda Gail.

I thought I hated working; I found out that a job that fits you makes all the difference.

If you have to earn a living, you might as well do something you enjoy.

[–] christian@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This does work for some people, but my experience was that having my livelihood depend on my passion completely killed my passion.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago

You misunderstand.

There's a big difference between something you're passionate about and something you enjoy.

The book works by testing your skills in different areas and then giving you a list of jobs that sue those skills.

For example, if one has good social skills and good dexterity they could be successful as a hairstylist or as a paramedic or as a product demonstrator.

All the jobs are different but they use the same skills.

If you actually like talking to people you'll be miserable driving a truck alone all day. That's what the book prevents.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's still helping my boss though

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You could get a civil service job and work for the community.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lol what if that's not what I'm best at

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What if I'm a slave by nature and incapable of doing anything to help my fellow man?

Enlist in the US military, I guess.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Ugh, you guys are no fun

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 17 points 1 week ago (4 children)

to be fair this is legit

I try to live by these sorts of principals https://mnmlist.com/archives/

[–] then_three_more@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The Kindle might cost you $79 (or a bit more), but you’ll spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on books.

This was a big part of why I got a Kobo to replace my kindle. Built in overdrive support so I can get loads of books from my local library and it's super easy to load up books that you've downloaded from places like Standard eBooks and Project Gutenberg.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I’ve got a Kobo. Never spent money in their store yet but I love it.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Depends on less what tbf.

The cat likes being content with less items and furniture, but the cat also gets mad at having to be content with less personal time. Presumibly it just likes to sleep in those pesonal times, as the cat is a baby.

Only if buddhist, not if capitalist.

Self-help that just makes you a better employee instead of a happier person is too real πŸ˜
