Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1801 readers
430 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

MODERATORS

Noticed I got caught in a wave of bans by the mod of apologiafreenews@lemmy.world after downvoting their obvious distraction propaganda. They got pissy in the comments because their first post got heavily downvoted. So they deleted that post, banned everyone that downvoted, then posted it again to game the system. Classy. I wonder how lemmy.world admins feel about mods abusing their authority like this.

*Also, still can't block communities we've been banned from on the community page. What a joke.

Probably PTB. It certainly isn't acceptable to ban a swath of people that down vote, and assuming your comment was topical and not some kind of crazy, that would apply to everyone thus banned.

The probably part is because there might be some outside chance a given individual might have also said something in a comment that warrantied a ban along with down voting. I don't think that's the case here, just don't have enough certainty to not acknowledge the possibility

No objectionable comment. No comment at all - just a downvote. And of course the mod downvoted this very post (*and comment, lol. Checking in to see what people think of you, eh?). How very "rules for thee" of them as they continue their sad little banning spree.

It's funny how easy it is to get a nice list of bans over here.

Just downvote some stuff you don't agree with or think are low quality and eventually you'll find you're banned in several comms.

Call out tankies or make a negative comment about russia and you get some random lemmy.ml community bans.

I think it's mostly harmless, but can also see how it could be gamed to amplify some bad stuff.

People love their bubbles so in here they make even smaller bubbles.

Votes being public, I feel it is destined to be this way.

Also, still can't block communities we've been banned from on the community page. What a joke.

It would be a nice improvement! Currently you can go to settings -> blocks and you can add a block.

Voyager let's you block a community by a long press on the community name

LW running the ML governance model.

[–] calmblue75@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Genuinely curious, what is the ml governance model?

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I was being somewhat sarcastic. ML and Grad mods tend to ban anyone who questions their worldview, which is, oversimplifying it, all Communist governments are the best, no matter what. They have done and can do no wrong.

Ml and grad ban people who oppose Russian war of aggression on Ukraine . I am banning people defending warmongers and try to suppress information's about them. We are not the same

[–] Limonene@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

You have no idea why they downvoted.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Someone down voting a post is not defending a war monger.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Downvoting a video about a warmonger warmongering is defending warmongers

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 hours ago

I fully agree, why else?
