Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Google is evil. If you have to remind yourself not to be evil, you’re evil. If you get tired of having to remind yourself not be evil, and therefore stop reminding yourself, then you’re evil.

What is so hard about these situations is normies absolutely do not understand the problems with certain operating systems and OSes and normie tracking Apps.

I applied for a job and a recruiter harassed me over having a proton.me address, going "Well I've never heard of that." How do I respond to that? "I'm sorry you're an idiot?"

This is what Thomas-Johnson gets for using normie software like the rest of the oblivious. Because 99.99 percent of people will continue to look like they smelled rotten eggs whenever non-normie Apps or services are brought up, even when things like this continue to happen, normies will not change. It's like global warming: everyone intelligent knows we are headed toward disaster, metaphorically steering the ship into the icebergs, and we are on a collision course with death; normies do not care. With the psychopathic and nihilistic rich and idiotic religious people controlling the narrative, you would think normies would notice; they do not. I do not feel sorry for this person. He used google. What outcome should he have expected? For them to adhere to their policies?

Instead of thinking of people in two groups, dumb normies and the group you are in, why not try thinking of them as, in the know and not yet in the know. For instance, there was a time when you weren't in the know about Proton.me, and someone explained it to you, because that's the way we make big changes in the world, by gathering numbers. The more people that we can get on the, in the know, side, the more power in our numbers we can use.

So, when you find someone who doesn't know, sell the thing to them with a couple of well worded sentences. Things like, if you really care about your privacy, you use applications that are privacy friendly, for now. Like...fill in blanks.

If you can't think what to say, ask yourself why you use it.

That reasoning is a lot like saying a fish in the ocean is just a ballerina waiting to happen. No one can teach the religious anything until they stop being fantasy prone.

Are we seriously suggesting even with half a grain of salt that Samsung wouldn't do the very same?

Google's just the first house on the street, they'll all gladly snitch on you.

Samsung at least isn't American. There's some level of effort required to get a foreign company to provide information.

Google just pisses it out because they can.

There are free and open source messenger apps for those that care. The one I use is Fossify Messenger, and it's fairly bare bones but I'm not really a texting power user, so it's perfectly fine for my use case

"FUCK NO!! I ain’t giving a way for the government to get everything without a warrant. Google can eat shit!"

What if I were to tell you that the government does in fact got most of you through official records? Like, run a public search on yourself. You're already on record.

Google is the least of your problems, in comparison. You're on the hook already.

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Oddly, searching myself, through name or public name doesn't yield shit.

It doesn't have my conversations with people.
