Movies I watched this weekend

Wuthering Heights 2/5

God this movie dragged. The last 30 or so minutes were good but it didnโ€™t make up for the snoozefest middle. Style over substance.

Project Hail Mary 4.5/5

Went into this blind knowing nothing about the story. Not sure I would have watched if not for the DT praise but so glad I did. Absolutely loved it. I laughed, I shed a tear, I was on the edge of my seat, it had it all.

Definitely not me running around the house listening to downpipes in the rain at 5am. Nope no one is that weird... uhh

THEY ALL WORK NOW! And no weird gurgling noises, tank being fed nicely. I DID IT (although I'm not quite sure what I did).

A bit on the wet side today. Mr Woof did get to rock his flouro yellow raincoat on our walk, not that anyone was out to see hin anyway.

Driving down to Melbourne without all the traffic was pretty nice, cut about 40 minutes off the trip. Plus all the clouds meant I didn't have the usual problem of the sun straight into my eyes, so I'm counting it a pretty good day.

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

without all the traffic

oh noez heading back to melbs today probably means the vline will be packed.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

all trains have been packed because public transport free

[โ€“] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I was hoping to get on the analogue bike this weekend but it didn't happen. This has just been a weekend of feeling tired and sleeping at odd times as a result, just throwing me out completely

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I happy cry way more than sad cry. Fact I happy cry more on behalf of someone else than I do for myself.

I'm glad Mr Seagoon makes you happy ๐Ÿ˜Š โค๏ธ๐Ÿซ‚

just him being him makes me happiest

Iโ€™m off to the museum to meet Those Kooky Romans

[โ€“] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm going to finish reading Mary Beard's books on Rome then I'll go check it out. I want the exhibition to feel like a greatest hits tour rather than discovering something new

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

It very much is a greatest hits kind of thing, though quite a well done example

Lindsey Davis' books about her Roman detective Falco are a good way to get across the late empire without tears. Poseidon's Gold is a good place to start. Also Venus in Copper and The Iron Hand of Mars.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

sounds cool ๐Ÿ˜Š

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

Iโ€™m being a massive stresshead and it just wonโ€™t stop. Wishing I could just have a drink (or a few) to manually shut my brain off. Green is also off the table.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

it just wonโ€™t stop.

what do you think would make it stop

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

I donโ€™t know. Iโ€™m trying to sort out as much as I can

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

I like audiobooks and podcasts when I need to replace my brain noise with something else. Currently listening to The Universe series on Crash Course podcasts. https://pca.st/podcast/a68a1cc0-d98e-013c-8c70-0288c31939f3

Anything by Hank and John Green is great for accessible science and topics that are not airy fairy but always hopeful. A bit out there but Stories of the Mahabharata is a family friendly telling of the great Indian mythic tale https://pca.st/podcast/2798d470-fcb5-0131-9d86-5f4c86fd3263

I also finished the full set of Discworld audiobooks but that's not accessible unless you have audible or similar subscription. Rumination is the thing that gets me but this helps because I can sleep or move at the same time as opposed to doomscrolling

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Sorry second thought. Although I fought it every time, SSRIs helped (and still do help) me immensely as an adult

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Antidepressants have never worked for me (treatment resistant and bad reactions) but Iโ€™m getting desperate enough for another go.

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

Tense every muscle in your body. All at once. Hard as you fucking can. Clench those fists. Pucker that anus! Until they shake. Hold for 15-30 seconds. Release

Those Kooky Romans were quite enjoyable

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

Oooof mfw i catch my hand between a five pound hammer and a masonry spike. My tomas, they are full of haem.

But the garage is now completely stripped of shitty shitty render and ready for repointing next week! Awww yissssss.

I need to find a place that does window vinyl with a somewhat lassiez-faire relationship to copyright. Because i want this on the inside of the garage window.

this

Fallout 3 with mods is fucking amazing.

Also filled out volunteer applications for Lort Smith and RSPCA. Let's see how this plays out.

Also, throwback cat photo

You could also try wildlife Victoria. They help injured wildlife. Even if you canโ€™t be a carer due to work, they need phone operators, drivers etc.

Much appreciated! Will look them up now :)

Packing up hobby crap in boxes to at least put it away.

Edit: And I need to weed these books I never read

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

just leave out one hobby ๐Ÿ˜Š

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

Iโ€™ve lost all interest Iโ€™m afraid ๐Ÿ˜•Putting the stuff away so it doesnโ€™t clutter so much or need to keep getting cleaned

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

Hope everyone had a great long weekend. I visited some friends, did a bit of cooking and house admin, and I see Iโ€™m not the only one that went to the Rome exhibit! It was a bit smaller than I thought it would be, and a bit crowded, but I enjoyed it. The marble head of Jupiter was the most impressive object for me. But the little everyday items remind you that people are the same everywhere, even 2000 years ago. There were objects from hairdressers, merchants, priests, bowls to eat from, coffins (sarcophagi), coins and art. Just people being people. 2000 years is so incredibly long ago. Amazing that so many items survived.

I know this is a tricky topic, but as someone who is trying to be frugal and looking for better employment, how can I get decent clothes for said employment? Any suggestions for acceptable female workwear? Has to be fairly modest due to the nature of the jobs

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

Not sure if you are eligible, but there is Ready Set and Fitted for Work as possibilities
