I can't wait.
Finally a good alternative to Roblox.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Honestly, I have no fucking clue what Roblox even looks like. I have been hearing about it for years but not a single forum post or article has ever had a screenshot.

I don't think you missed much.

It's clearly just consumerist shit for kids that don't know any better and the pedophiles preying on them.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago

I'm not going to play any game about blocks with little kids in it

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago

Really stupid grift for kids.

Theres millions of better games. But kids and parents are idiots.

It sucks tbh.
I remember:
Moderation problems(even the CEO of roblox started being accused of being a pedophile because he wouldn't fix the problem, and allowing one of the weird people to a event and i think the event is cancelled, and even displaying the weird people on a game and later removing them), 90% of the games being copies of existing ones (most of the 10% is original but basic concept),axing core features of roblox(replacing faces and forcing realistic characters),being accused of child labour(for being a "childrens website" and them taking 30%),accused of hiring third world people for their Moderation,Forced AI(LLM),axing Linux to implement a anticheat(should be a red-flag tbh), Corporate greed?(removing lifetime builders club),etc.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

Daffy Finn Sim my summer cottage

What are these words

[–] GammaGames@beehaw.org 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

Good question, I looked it up:

dafty Finn sim My Summer Cottage

dafty is a slang term used in the UK, particularly in Scotland and Northern England, to describe a person who acts silly or foolish.

The rest is because the premise is based on an earlier simulator game (by a different developer afaik) My Summer Car, which also takes place in Finland (though that is the 1990s)

I thought it was a play on the Japanese series My Summer Vacation, lol

[–] artyom@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago

Ah, should've known it was the UK again...

[–] alphabethunter@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

My Summer Cottage is the name of the game, which I imagine is some kind of Finnish Life Sim?

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Maybe Half Life 3 can be made this way.

[–] YesButActuallyMaybe@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

It will be now.

It runs does not mean it supports it. So we need to see how this turns out in the future. The compatibility could break with future requirements and changes. I'm just worried because Garry is not a very Linux friendly.

[–] bamboy@mastodon.gamedev.place 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

@thingsiplay @Midnitte
Facepunch cant even decide if it's going to be fully supported on linux. I got several conflicting answers.

The community and staff are an unmoderated toxic pile of **** anyway. I think it's going to flop for that reason alone.

Very disappointing.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Disappointing to read that. But I think its a little bit too early to make a definitive mind yet. At least this is Open Source, so people want to make it work on Linux. Sadly even without Linux support I do not think it would flop (I know you wish to lol). It would be sad if Garry's Mod does not work on Steam Machine.

[–] bamboy@mastodon.gamedev.place 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

@thingsiplay I don't want #sbox to fail, I've been looking forward to it and #Source2 for a very long time.

...But not at the larger cost of spawning an unmoderated platform where hate and abuse can fester.

#garrynewman seems to be of the mind that he can do no wrong, when in fact he is taking the company in a new direction. With that comes new responsibility which he and his staff refuse to manage or plan for, despite many users giving the same feedback: "We need moderation"

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't think sbox should fail if it does not support Linux. But if it ends up locking games and the developers behind Windows, then I don't want it to become popular.

[–] bamboy@mastodon.gamedev.place 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

@thingsiplay At the moment you are forced to run the game through proton/wine on Linux.

I was told by a staff (rudely) the tools would be forever windows only.
(but again got conflicting answers)

I was not able to set up a cohesive dev environment with the tools under proton/wine.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

I wouldn't mind if it works perfectly fine through Proton to be honest. But anything that requires and locks to Windows only is bad for gamers, developers and the future of human race.
