they would turn it into a a sort of play on the mrbeast bullshit. that's all they would have to substitute. instead of being a Korean children's game it'd be like youtube challenge bullshit. I.E. who can keep their hand on this stack of money the longest and when someone lets go they get shot.

Given the track record of forgein films remade by the US. I would say it has a very high probability of being terrible
Right? Nearly every movie/series is much better before it gets Americanized. Only exception I can think of at this second is The Office.
Even then, better is debatable. They are two very different types of comedy. I will admit the US office is a more palatable one you can binge watch. The UK office I need to take a break after an episode because I'll reach dangerously high levels of cringe otherwise
Would depend who made it, both the producing company and the director.
If they tried to properly emulate the darkness of the show, and had something to actually say about society, then in the right hands it could be decent. As long as it wasn't just the exact same plot, they'd need to have their own story to tell.
For example, I could imagine David Simon doing something interesting with it, relating to the corrosive nature of capitalism, media, etc.
But more likely the focus would be on the games and the gore and the lore of the Game itself, plus personal interactions between the contestants, love triangles, etc. Which IMO is less interesting.

As you say, Squid Game is a Korean game, its rules nonsensical to westerners, and it has not taken off in the west, because we all collectively agreed the game is fucking stupid.
So maybe they call the remake something else. Squid Game is only called that, one, because they play children’s games; and two, because Squid Game is the final game in the first season.
A remake wouldn’t be impossible, but they’d have to change the name to something more culturally relevant. There is actually a Hide and Seek movie IIRC. Maybe Capture the Flag?
I think the question is less "should they" and more, there is one already announced and in production, so what do you think it'll look like
They will have to change up the games to what kids play in the US. Then add the death twist for the game losers. The billionaires making poor people kill each other for entertainment stays the same though. Cultural dynamics with how players act will also have to change.

Don't say The Office because the first two seasons of that are almost identical to the UK version, then it goes downhill.
Peep Show was attempted and failed.
The Inbetweeners was also shite.
Absolutely Fabulous was attempted and wasn't commissioned.
As if was cancelled after two episodes.
Broadchurch was cancelled after one season.
Coupling was cancelled after 4 episodes.
The IT Crown was cancelled after the pilot.
Red Dwarf had two US pilots but was never picked up.
Spaced was only a pilot.
I'll add The Thick of It even though the OG pilot wasn't picked up. However Veep is pretty successful.
I agree completely except for The Office.

As a Aussie I appreciated the original productions of Wilfred and Review as the surrealist masterpieces they are. That said the US remakes told their own stories. Saying one is better than the other ignores the fact they both have value and are doing their own thing.
Wilfred was amazing, I only saw the American version though. Such a weird experience.
They made a US version of Spaced?? This I have to see. It's SO British in tone.

I hope they do an American version that takes place in the same universe but with games more common in America, and an entirely new story. I don't want a rehash of the same show in English. I saw Squid Games already. Maybe it could be "Squid Games International" because it was so popular among the oligarchy, they brought it to North America.

Btw: I got marked as "misbehaving" often on the stupid "behavior chart" bullshit and that got me banned from trips...
So you could make a plot where any kid that gets left behind from trips now has to murder each other...
Then you get those new immigrant kids like me just crying and like "媽媽，我而家唔想再住喺美國啦... 😭" ("Mama, I don't wanna live in America anymore...") then kids like the 8-year old version of me are the the first ones to die lol...

It depends on how much money they spend on making it, but it will obviously never have the same originality.
Like the American Squid Game reality show? It uses squibs and has contestants pretending to die in a lamp-shaded way (gets caught, remote controlled squib goes off, looks down disappointed, after a short reaction time and thinking delay they lay down in a safe way - or jump-fall like a stunt person). Maybe they have a bigger special effects budget and don’t interview the “dead” people after?
I guess it depends on how much effort goes into it, but odds are it'd be an easy cash grab so i assume it'd be way worse and also inherently obnoxious.
The only Korean-to-American remake I can think of off-hand is Oldboy. The remake was OK but it was a far cry from being even a shadow of the original.
They're making a spinoff set in America. It's supposed to film in December
How could anything be worse than that?
