I'm not this bad at writing on a keyboard I swear

I frigging' hate phone keyboards. Also weird but I feel like I type worse when my phone's muted and I can't hear the little tactile keypress

[โ€“] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 months ago

that kind of makes sense. do you gesture type? the haptics inform you where each key boundary is

[โ€“] disregardable@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I understand but surely it's not that bad.

it IS! literally falling on my sword now โ˜ ๏ธ

Due to inflation, I'm not sure that amount of arm will suffice when it comes to buying a decent quality keyboard.

Samsung's keyboard is atrocious. You type out a word, and it auto-corrects it to something dumb, so you backspace and retype it, and it autocorrects it again instead of realising you meant that exact word...

I imagine it's awful, not accounting for Samsung's privacy dealings. Openboard is even doing me dirty, but it's kind of on me for having a phone in the first place.

I'm mostly relying on samsung being to incompetent to properly violate my privacy :D

I was using futo keyboard, which is openboard, but they changed its layout and broke it for me. Maybe I'll retry at some point.

wait, on a lark I just switched back to Samsung despite it being a privacy nightmare. This works way better for me. I have the buttons set to an enormous size and have most autocorrections turned off. Would that help you?

I'd like functional auto correct though :(

Really wish there was a keyboard that let you actually customise the position of the keys. I keep hitting the . instead of the spacebar

While I was looking for alternatives I grabbed florisboard and openboard. Only Openboard has gesture typing but I think they both had some options for button placement. And they're open source

[โ€“] CameronDev@programming.dev 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Floris seems nice, but no glide typing :( and i dont see how to resize individual buttons?

Maybe ill try floris for a bit.

[โ€“] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Oh wait. Floris' resize is a new alpha feature. it's on this version

https://github.com/florisboard/florisboard/releases/tag/v0.6.0-alpha02

Hit the elipse dot symbol at the top of the keyboard and then the button to resize should be on the left. Yeah they're promising glide typing in the future but there's no eta on it.

That just resizes the overall board? I want to be able to resize each button individually.

Will try floris some more though, there is a lot of configurability.

[โ€“] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 months ago

Sorry, that's the most I've found.

I get repetitive strain from typing, and mudras help stretch out the hands & so forth. There is the channel Three Vajras on YouTube, a resource for mudras.
