Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on May 21 and was captured on video, showing the officers exchanging blows and shoves. One of them, visibly agitated, used her radio to request the presence of a supervisor, warning that "I need a supervisor here... immediately before I beat this girl up."

The past couple of years have not been good for the Secret Service's reputation. They used to seem like they were the elite, now they come across as bad as any law enforcement organization.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 131 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Well it doesn’t help that they’re recruiting through YouTube and Plex ads, and candidates have disclosed Trump loyalty questions during the interview process.

[–] ptu@lemm.ee 7 points 11 months ago

Not being very secret either

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 40 points 11 months ago

Mostly made up of former cops, so it all tracks

[–] UnculturedSwine@lemmy.dbzer0.com 123 points 11 months ago (2 children)

There are no more adults in government rn. America is devolving into Lord of the Flies.

[–] SippyCup@feddit.nl 39 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Oh perfect. I GOT THE CONCH.

many may have a conch but mine is THE Conch and I have it.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago

ALL HAIL THE MAGIC CONCH!

[–] Saleh@feddit.org 23 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

Isn't the whole point of Lord of the Flies that the adults ain't better and any level of civilisation is just a thin layer on top? From the beginning that the boys told themselves they were the social elite and had civilized manners, which would make it easy for them to retain civilization to the end

spoilerwhere the captain of the army ship that rescued them just asked something along the line of "what have you boys been up to? Playing war?"

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 29 points 11 months ago (3 children)

The point of Lord of the Flies is that the upper class are always brutal savages.

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This, and that modern civilization is only four collective missed meals away from brutality.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Thats largely untrue though. In crises people come together. The term academics use is "spontaneous self organization". It's really just the upper classes who turn to brutality at every possible opportunity.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 2 points 11 months ago

I would think it shows that even the upper class is. That would be contrary to general opinion at the time. Although lower classes weren't part of the story, it doesn't exempt them.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's a story. There was a real life group of boys that got stranded and they got along just fine.

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 months ago

There was also a soccer team whose plane crashed in the Andes, and even they got along fine. Even with the cannibalism.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 122 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The Praetorian Guard is starting to fight amongst itself ...... that's usually not a good sign for the empire.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 35 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Okay say what you want about the praetorian guard, but they were much cooler than anything the secret service is rocking.

[–] Blade9732@lemmy.world 42 points 11 months ago (5 children)

Say what you want about uniforms, but the praetorian guard didn't have these:

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Best I can do is an AR-15 with a 3d printed bicycle mount.

Unfortunately that doesn't look as cool as a roman chariot with some spears, IMO.

[–] BarrelAgedBoredom@lemm.ee 7 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I think there's some coolness potential for an e-trike modified in the fashion of a technical

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

A horseless carriage with laser spears

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 11 months ago

Motorcycle chariot races are actually a real thing. Just need to add some modern weaponry.

[–] BarrelAgedBoredom@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Now we're talking

[–] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Gay E-trike technical vs Fascist cyber trecnical when?

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Eh, they say that gun was a DEI hire. They'll get rid of it.

[–] CCAirWater@lemm.ee 17 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They'll get rid of it.

A gun? In this country? It's got more rights than most of us.

[–] Artyom@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

Until someone points out the gun is black!

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 months ago

The tank that looks like a car...that looks like a tank.

[–] Wahots@pawb.social 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Holy shit, is that a minigun?

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Yes it is. That isn't a Denali, it's an APC.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 74 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (4 children)

The article said:

Journalist Susan Crabtree posted video and audio of the altercation on Twitter, noting that the incident took place about two miles from the White House.

So I went to look for her twitter post in her profile, and I just have to say, what the fuck is up with that lady? She's supposed to be a Journalist?

She even blamed the fight between the secret service officers on diversity, equality and inclusion.

Edit: Here's the link via xcancel so you don't have to give her impressions: https://xcancel.com/susancrabtree/status/1927394294949671141

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 32 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I kind of curious why a journalist was hanging outside Obama's house at 2:30 a.m..

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 26 points 11 months ago

Yeah, this makes me think that maybe one of the two agents is a MAGAt and wanted to stir up something outside Obama's place that this journalist, and I use the term very loosely, could record.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 31 points 11 months ago

Ah, from the Breitbart school of "journalism."

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Clearly they were probably on their period and this is why we need to ban DEI.

/s obviously

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 31 points 11 months ago (1 children)

secret service - public drama

[–] YoiksAndAway@lemmy.zip 17 points 11 months ago
[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 26 points 11 months ago

Disgusting to see that this is being reported on as a DEI issue through the twitter link.

[–] VirgilMastercard@reddthat.com 20 points 11 months ago

This is absolutely hilarious to me in its randomness. Pure Onion headline.
