I don’t think Lemmy is any better. The other day, a Lemmy moderator didn’t like a video I shared about the potential collapse of the US and banned me from eight communities. As far as I know, the video wasn’t even AI-generated, so I don’t know where he got that idea from.
Reddit mods are power hungry assholes. This one specifically too. But you also broke the rules of the sub. When I was a mod of a small sub having to handle all sorts of people giving me attitude, I wasn't paid enough for it.
You weren't like "oh sorry, I didn't understand replying to questions with info about my work broke rule 9". You were more like "how dare you".

Moderation is slapping people in the face, for a good reason. You're still slapping them in the face.
Some people need a slap in the face. When I was mod sometimes I couldn't handle all the crap. But if someone messaged me nicely and seemed understanding, I always replied in kind.
Yeah I just lurk at Reddit and do my engaging here. Too many power addicted mods, and a worsening foreign influence problem.
Not that we're immune here, but it's been a LOT more enjoyable to engage here than Reddit.

I got permabanned from !lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world for asking about the rules in the sticky thread for questions about the rules. Reddit power-tripping mods suck, but we should also be wary about tolerating the same sort of mentality here.
I just looked out of curiosity and I get it, tbh, though you should probably have been given more notice before a temp ban, not a permaban off the bat. You seem to me like you don’t want to follow the rule regarding religion. I’m not trying to start shit, but it’s not a very pleasant set of interactions that follow, and that’s probably not what the mods are looking for.
Being upset about a rule and refusing to follow it are entirely different things, whether the mod understands that or not.
The motherfucker banned me preemptively for something he thought I might do. Not only were there not escalating consequences for multiple offenses (as any reasonable moderation standards would have), there wasn't even a first offense!

It's just a terrible subreddit to begin with. The artwork is all shit and uninspiring stuff you would see from a teenager. I'll be the first to admit i have no artistic ability, but all the posts were just the portfolio of high schoolers

I could check by clikcing the moderation history on the removed comment, in the 3 dot menu. I'm on lemmy.zip tho not the desktop or mobile versions. I saw all the history of that one banned person with all their removed comments and messages from the mod.
If I do it for myself, I only see "mod". Am on mobile though. I heard that admins can sometimes see mod names, so perchance do you host your own instance?

I made a comment on one sub that broke a vague rule that they deemed inappropriate.. (something to the effect of making your comments tactful)
When asking about their decision and defending my comment they banned me from all the subreddits they modded.
I was a user for 14 years.. Haven't been back to Reddit since. ✌🏼

I'm not sure if I'm ahead of the game having left reddit entirely before I could get banned from anything, or if I'm missing out on a core cultural experience.
