Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

To this day, I have still yet to see a single news article mentioning Uttar Pradesh that wasn't about a raped child. I'm sure some of this is bias in the reporting, but this is literally the only thing I know about the place.

There are a few users who post articles like this constantly. I'm on the other side of the world, so I have no idea if it's propaganda, just something I've noticed.

To clarify my use of the word, I'll quote Adam Johnson: "The atomic unit of propaganda isn't lies - it's emphasis."

woah that's a good quote i am stealing it

A childhood friend of mine is now a school teacher in Florida amd over the years she has had a few 10, 11 and 12 year old pregnant students (pulled from school due to pregnancy).

Raping children might indeed be more prevalent in Uttar Pradesh but it is in no way as rare as you think it is elsewhere. Humans suck.

Yeah but counter point: Florida? Really?

Prettyuxh same shit, different day

All, of course, one way or another perpetrated and supported by the religious

A find of mine knows a guy who killed a million pedos.

I can make anecdotes up, too

Do you know for a fact that those kids weren't impregnated by other students, though? Kids fooling around with each other consensually is much more common than adults messing with kids. I wouldn't automatically assume rape.

EDIT: lol downvoted for asking a clarifying question, smells Reddit-y.

Actually I do, because she told me the back story on most. One family member and a few "mom's boyfriend". Not a single kid on kid incident in the cases she dealt with.

The caste system and corruption in India allows it

The world isn't evil, people are.

There is no inherent evilness other than Antisocial Personality Disorders which most people don't have

According to the girl’s family, Rashid first lured her to his home by offering fruit. He allegedly filmed the assault and threatened to harm her relatives if she told anyone.

The family knew and decided to do nothing about it?

[–] shawn1122@sh.itjust.works 17 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I'd read that as she eventually told her family.

[–] sonofearth@lemmy.world 23 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Even I want to believe that but I am an Indian and know how people think here. Families here think if their daughter/wife/mother/sister have been raped, it would bring disgrace to them if the news spread in the public so they stay silent and hope it would pass. This is especially true for low income families.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Garbage humans think that way

[–] wabafee@lemmy.world 12 points 8 months ago

What the fuck!

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 8 months ago

I’ve heard some gnar stories from UP, but this one is one of the worst.
