May I ask how many B parameters does it have? Because the paradox over here is:

  1. if it is weak then you will be getting much much worse results than even the Big Models the corpos have (we don't even know how much tbh), let alone the quality of an actual artist.
  2. If you have a respectfully powerful model then your PC might cost thousands of dollars (even by ignoring the price hikes) which eliminates the excuse to pay an actual artist.

America themselves supplied the nuclear tech to Pakistan because at the time India was USSR's strong ally and considered it a threat. Now ig Pakistan comes in top 10 countries with the most nukes so I don't think US will try to mess with it now.

Edit: Correction - Pakistan developed its nuclear program by stealing tech from Europe and China helped them.

Human trafficking is the least of the worries in that country lol. The country is a military dictatorship that fuels and funds terrorist attacks in Kashmir. The Prime Minister is just their puppet. After independence and partition, they thought they had a huge threat from India so they invested hugely in their military and still ended up losing all the wars against India. Now they are so much in debt that they have to bootlick America to get the IMF to give them money. Which again they use it to fund terrorist activities in Kashmir.

The entire south Asia region (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh) is pretty unsafe for women. Sexual Assualt, Kidnappings and Human Trafficking are a huge problem even for the natives.

I can’t afford to pay for artists

You can afford LLMs right now because all of the LLM companies are losing money on it. If they decide they want to make a profit, they will raise their prices significantly. So you still end up in the same situation. You don’t have much control on what an LLM spits out while with doing animation manually, you have total control or at-least sit with an actual animator to make it look how you envision it to be.

I plan on using AI to turn my writing into a visual animated format for people to consume.

What makes you think that people will respond the same way and in the same numbers to LLM generated animation than if it were crafted by an artist? I reckon that it will be much lower. I see it on youtube constantly. I watched a video about a topic, then I got recommended something related to it from a different channel. Guess what? The script and the animation were so damn similar and the shit they were spewing wasn’t even true in the end. Everything that both the channels made was slop. Sure they spit out more content than conventional methods and got a few thousand views each video and made decent money on it. But they aren’t gonna sustain for long if they want audience retention.

Since then I have been more mindful on what video I click on and going to the extent of disabling recommendations and watch history.

Yes the energy consumption is bad. My main gripe about LLM generated art is that it will not be original. It will use its training data from uncredited artworks to generate it. Art usually is made by humans to express something or convey something in a creative way. LLMs fail at that. What LLMs can actually be helpful at is making learning art more accessible to everyone. Art schools or private art classes can be expensive. This lowers the barrier to entry.

As for you using generated Art is that the it might be really beautiful but it will be very difficult to maintain that style and even more difficult to convince that it is your style. The Artist doesn’t get much recognition with LLM generated art. Using it as a critique also seems stupid because LLMs will aways try to give an objective view on it than subjective. Your art won’t trigger an emotion in it and might say it is bad or “do this to make it more understandable” — that’s where you lose as an artist.

My mom likes to paint as a hobby. What she does it searches stuff on Pinterest (which is mostly LLM Generated). She uses it as an inspiration to do it in her own style and maybe give it some spin. She keeps all of it for herself.

I am the c/fuck_ai person but at this point I have made peace we can't avoid it. I still don't want it to do artsy stuff (image gen, video gen) and to blindly use it in critical stuff because humans are the ones that should be doing it or have constant oversight. I think the team's logic is correct here, because there is no way to know if the code is from an LLM or a human unless something there screams LLM or the contributor explicitly mentions it. Mandating the latter seems like a reasonable move for now.

that’s not a joke lol. governments and businesses actually think like that. Whom are they gonna sue if, for example, CachyOS borks something? Since it being a community developed distro, it doesn’t provide dedicated 24x7 tech support or would quickly patch something because some business’s application stopped working on that distro.

I’ve been a long time Linux user on laptops, but this will be my first time putting hardware together and running a dedicated gaming rig on Arch. I’m aiming for a high end 1440p ultra wide gaming experience and some light Davinci Resolve work. Want to make sure I haven't made any "first timer" mistakes with compatibility or bottlenecks.

I divided the purchase in 3 phases (Let me know if this approach is correct). 1- Get the parts that I can immediately use with my current laptop (Webcam and Monitor). 2- Get a working system w/o the dGPU (As it is the most expensive part.) 3- Get the GPU. So Phase 1 is done and now will save money for phase 2 by May (although I have already secured the SSD and the RAM for the cheapest I could find — It is arriving today so I will check the RAM on my SIL's prebuilt AM5 build and the SSD via usb-c adapter with my laptop).

Below is the table of the parts. . These prices are somewhat close to INR (Indian Rupee).

The CPU Cooler has a height of 160mm so it leaves a 10mm gap between it and the case. I was wondering if I should go with a Liquid Cooler like the Arctic Liquid Freezer III because the summers are HOT AF over here like 40-45 degrees C during day and 30 at night and also for the RAM Clearance whose height is 33mm. But then I don't know how reliable the idea of water running in your system is.

GruvBox theme for OLED? on KDE Plasma (lemmy.ml)
 

I just ordered an OLED Monitor and really excited for it. To truly get the most out of it, I want to change my KDE Plasma (using Kvantum) to use pitch black. But I also like the GruvBox Colors. I tried to change the colors section in .kvconfig but it turned out to be a hot garbage maybe because it messes with the GruvBox Plasma Style which is not tied to Kvantum. Does anyone have or know a OLED Gruv Box Style that I can use?

Hey everyone,

So I did my usual weekly system update with paru -Syu this morning. The update went through normally. nothing major, no core packages, Nvidia, or Plasma updates from what I could tell when I glanced at the packages. I also checked the Arch news beforehand to see if anything required manual intervention and there was nothing.

I went ahead and rebooted and tried logging into a Wayland session from SDDM, and it froze on the desktop immediately. Couldn't even get into a TTY from there.

This issue is somewhat familiar and has happened to me before. Usually, it’s fixable by rebooting or unplugging and plugging back in an external monitor. So I did a forced reboot (holding power) and tried again same freeze. Tried once more, still the same.

Then I booted into X11, logged in, and initially it seemed fine. I resized the scaling to 125% (it was at 100%), logged out and tried logging back into x11 and it froze again.

I had no idea what broke. I ended up going into TTY from GRUB and restoring a Timeshift snapshot from a day ago. After that, I could log in normally again.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

PS: I wanted to check the journal and debug it, but I had to catch a bus for vacation, so my laptop is at home. Will try to investigate more later.

Update: In Adguard turn the blocking method to NXDOMAIN so it won’t give this error. It still gives a warning that “you’re using a VPN”. Edit: I am on iOS 26.

Broader Context: All Indian Banking apps have been instructed to not allow the use of VPN slot while using a banking app. The Central Bank has also ordered to disallow usage if Developers Options are turned on. Apart from that globally all banking apps require Google Play Services and Boot-loader to be locked. I also found on some reddit post that they are not allowing the use of a 5 year old + phones for banking.

Steam Link for Non-Steam games on Wayland? (Linux) (lemmy.world)
 

I am running Arch Linux with KDE Plasma (wayland).

Today I discovered Steam Link. I enabled it and worked flawlessly with Steam games. But it showed a black screen for non-steam games (lutris shortcuts specifically) although the input did work. I thought it was a wayland issue and I was right as I immediately installed & switched to X11 session and I was able to see the game. I don't know if it is an x11 issue but my Laptop's (host) fans were running pretty fast and sometimes games were just crashing or refused to launch (which rarely happens on wayland). I doubt that just the addional overhead of steamlink is causing these issues (although I won't reject that possibility) given I have pretty decent hardware — ryzen 9 8945h, rtx 4070 8gb laptop gpu, 32 gigs of ram.

Also on x11 a lot of display settings seem to be missing. I don't want to keep x11 just for playing non steam games via steam link. So is there a way to play non-steam games via steam link on wayland session?

I’ve got a small backlog of games on my laptop (running Arch Linux with KDE) through Lutris. I usually play with a keyboard and a mouse, but since I sit pretty close to my screen (ik bad habit), it starts getting uncomfortable after a while. So I’ve been thinking about picking up a gamepad for some more relaxed, couch style gaming.

I’ve never actually owned a gamepad or a console before, so this would be my first time. From what I’ve seen on Reddit, a lot of people seem to have good experiences using Xbox controllers on Linux. I just wanted to get some more insight before buying one to make sure I’m making the right choice.

I’m also planning to grab a second controller so my girlfriend and I can play some local multiplayer games together.

Update: I went with 8BitDo Ultimate C wired as it was cheaper and a lot of folks below suggested it over the original Xbox Controller. It worked out of the box. I have only tested it with Marvel’s Spiderman 2 from Fitgirl repacks installed and running via Lutris. Worked w/o any issues.
