im hoping this adds fuel to the potential revolt that may happen after trump dies his cowardly death.
one can dream
If anything, his death is going to mollify people. This is the height of public outrage, and nothing has happened yet. I don't foresee any kind of armed resistance until things get way worse materially, maybe 5-10 years.
Starving will be required for a real revolt. We won’t risk starvation until we’ve got no other choice.
A few more years of climate disasters and war shortages might get us there though. A few of us already are going hungry.
This is it. Even if it’s not quite starvation (the USA wastes 1/3 of its food output, we could lose 1/3 and still be okay with some rationing), massive supply shortages across the board will push people over the edge.
Ironic how capitalists criticize socialist governments for making people wait for basics, yet we may end up in exactly the same position while the Epstein class continues to operate like bandits and hoard all the wealth.
It took starving to get the French Revolution too. They even started eating horses before revolting.
this seems sophmoric. if the idiotic dems can regain control much of whats happened gets reveresed.
there will never be an armed revolt.
Oh yeah, just like what happened in 2021-2025 right? Everyone should vote, it's the least you could possibly fucking do for your neighbors, it's literally free, there is no good reason not to fight back politically. From a historical perspective though, that really never works at this point. Trump is a symptom, not a cause. The underlying cause is a decaying empire which is no longer able to extract wealth from the third world to support the core.
Tax breaks, tariffs, stock buybacks, etc are being used to liquidate the economy rather than build anything. They make no sense from a nation building perspective because of the 'opportunity cost' associated with them: an equally sized investment rather than a debit would have increased in value over time. The infrastructure, schooling, the entire natural ecosystem, they are all being decimated because the US is being liquidated by billionaires on private islands. Natural disasters and rising unemployment, hunger and poverty will all increase until the us military is defeated.
I absolutely get your point though, and agree, that we shouldn't just give up. I think understanding the long term outlook is important context though. Despite the larger trends, victories will be had, on the local level, on the state level, maybe even the national level, and those victories are meaningful, they are worth fighting for.
You should definitely vote, but for many people its absolutely not free. Time off is money lost, and your government is making sure that you need to do that, among myriad other ways.
No, it is not free, but the financial fucking that comes of not voting is even more expensive and that is what people need to focus on.
Respectable employers allow time to go vote, polling places hand out "I voted" stickers as a receipt. Polling places are also open early and close late to accommodate for staggered shifts. There's even options for absentee voting. There's options not really limiting anyone. Just saying.
thinking that Dems will regain control is sophomoric.
reversing much of what has happened will take decades upon decades - at best
there may never be an armed revolt, but it's likely the only thing that would reverse the current trajectory.
Oh that's a bit defeatist.
Are we forgetting the sheer breadth and nature of the precedent that Trump is setting with his Executive Orders?
The next President can use the SAME power to claw back a lot of the taxpayer dollars that has been grifted from the public.
It should be a question asked of every Presidential candidate: Will you use the now expanded power - thanks to Trump - of the Office to reclaim taxpayer funds illegally taken by the prior administration?
Any candidate that waffles even a bit on the answer, is out.
