Even if a story is a bit dull, it's much better written by a human than an AI. Humans have intent. AI just has a big black box trained on scraped data being churned by a datacenter. Even the dullest stories written by a human can at least have some character into them. AI couldn't even come close to someone's first draft of their first work.
Also if AI truly does excel at stories, name a few best-selling books that critics love that's written by AI (bonus points if it's not someone's scraped work).
But hey if you like mediocre manufactured soulless slop whipped out by the thousands, you do you.
