so i know that the US prison system has straight up slavery and inmates even get rented out to big fast food companies to work there. even california (considered the most progressive state) has this and inmate firefighters worked to stop the LA fires. however, this doesnt seem uniform with all prisoners from what i see. who gets assigned to where and how? are they just selecting specifically black people in these types of programs?

i just dont understand why we let a country that still does this shit tell us what to believe about russia and SWANA countries and north korea. i dont get why animals in this nations military have universal immunity and are accountable to no court of law for their actions abroad. the people in this situation must feel so hopeless.

The prisoners appreciate being outside, in any weather. Some assignments are prison gardens, and surplus is shared with vulnerable elders, or Head Start, horse or cattle farms. Less desirable are corporate farms (Eggland's Best, Coosaw Farms) because of chemicals and brutality, not just for animals.

Other work options are in-house, and prisoners like being in the kitchen, especially on fried chicken days, laundry, which is brutal in summers, janatorial, washing cop cars but it's still outside. Prisoners like working trades because they get training and often market rate pay, which a lot goes to room and board, but some to savings, so if they're careful and don't spend all of it in canteen and phone calls, they do manage to leave with something.

It's ugly, mind and body breaking, but believe it or not, recidivism is high because people come out so institutionalized, they can't function outside of prison. And it's not just PoC, it's largely working poor/lumpenproletariat, but lumpenproles are crafty enough to work out a deal with people in power over them or effectively social engineer their way into more favorable terms, including device use, running gang activity on the outside.
