I believe it is a major cause of violence and suffering in the world, like the majority of religions. Reading the scripture considered canon is enough of a source to turn me away.

Hadiths are not part of the Quran. Thus, while the Quran is kept from political meddling, the Hadiths are a free for all. Want to make your families claim on the Caliph title stronger? Your maternal great grandmother totally married the Prophet at 6 years old! Much purer connection than he had with his other wives, thus your claim is stronger.
If you anachronistically judge everything you read from old texts with today's moral standards, then there will be no good religion. The Bible, for example, is absolutely shitty to women, racist against many different of non-hebrew peoples and makes inumerous reference to genocides.
I've yet to encounter a religion I would consider good. The bible also has cannibalism (Leviticus 26:29,Ezekiel 5:9).
The people who judge the Quran that way usually have no issues judging the Bible that way.
I don't know. I've seen plenty of Christians denouncing the Quran while being hypocritical about the Bible.
