Israeli protesters during an judicial overall protests outside the Knesset in Jerusalem, February 20, 2023. (Photo: Ilia Yefimovich/dpa via ZUMA Press/APA Images)The entire Israeli political spectrum is united in blasting Netanyahu for not continuing to attack Iran, and Israeli society agrees. The reason, to put it simply, is that Israelis are war junkies.

There are a handful of decent humans there who oppose it all. They have protested and been beaten up.

Mostly young people. Not very many of them. But I think that's pretty courageous considering they are literally surrounded by wolves.

What must it be like to live in a country surrounded by insane fascist. ?

Oh... Nevermind I guess I know.

Well.

But at least most of my fellow U.S citizens aren't in support of it.

I think Israel must feel like literally everyone is maga except like 2 people you know.

It's a good time to recommend the Discworld book Jingo, which remains just as relevant as when it was written.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. *No one* ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

And another quote from Feet of Clay:

Just because someone's a member of an ethnic minority doesn't mean they're not a nasty small-minded little jerk

(And then there's The Fifth Elephant that's so painfully spot-on that I'd rather not spoil a single moment of it. Terry Pratchett was amazing and I wish he was still around to share his humor and wisdom. We could use a few laughs right now.)

Seems like a lifetime since he died, I hope his books are still popular in a hundred years. Gnu pterry.

But at least most of my fellow U.S citizens aren’t in support of it.

Only 60% oppose an unprovoked attack targeting schools and hospitals?!

And their reasons:

  • I am from the other side of the uniparty so I dogmatically am against anything the other side does.

  • The gas prices are going up!

  • We are sending our poor little innocent baby killers to die for israel!

No, your country isn't better.
Also at best a handful of decent people, the US should be nuked just as hard AFAIC.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

It's a little better. I honestly feel that most of my community is not insane. That's something.

What country are you in bloomcole that your hands are clean?

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Belgium, to humor your whataboutism

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Shall we ask a couple of countries in Africa whether Belgium has clean hands?

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Like I haven't heard that feeble argument from an americunt when he looked up Belgium to try some whataboutism.
Bravo you've found ONE straw to grasp at from a long time ago where the circumstances are in no way comparable.
We're talking about support of the people.
For one, what did people know back then about the private endeavour of a royal or about anything remotely distant from where they lived?
Yes that definitely is the same as the people of the US shithole supporting nearly all their violent imperialism and terrorism while they have every opportunity to know they're wrong.
Oh, and BTW, it's your cancer shithole that took over in Congo and about everywhere they could in Africa.
So you can fuck right off with your ridiculous gotcha attempt.

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

That was a long way to say yep we fucked around in Africa.

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 0 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

'we' didn't do anything.
you and all your miserable population are war criminals.
Glad you're eating shit and circling the drain, you fully deserve it

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Belgians sure did, do we need drag out Belgian colonial history

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

no asshole, not humoring your whataboutism about totally irrelevant history when talking about US war crimes and their reprehensible barbarian population being complicit.
So fuck off, you've got nothing of relevance to offer.

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

You were super quick to pat yourself on the back then super annoyed when I pointed out Belgian history.

You can criticize America or any country, heck you can get big mad but there is no country that doesn’t have blood on its hands
