He is a symptom, not a cause.

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 36 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah but symptoms are what kill the patient.

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I really don't like the patient

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 17 points 5 days ago (1 children)

He is the brand of all of this though. If he goes, so does Maga.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago (2 children)

That's the point, this isn't true. They will find another.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

But they'll have to find it first. Vance isn't it. At least all of this shit could cool down a little.

[–] mathemachristian@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It won't? The full-scale assault on Iran, lebanon and the free parts of palestine would just continue...

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

that's a pretty big assumption

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's just as much of an assumption to think it would stop, and given past examples the GOP doesn't tend to stop initiatives when they switch figureheads.

and that democrats don't exactly change foreign policy when they are in power. however, we seem to be seeing what's more like the sundowning of a mad king than anything approaching what we could describe as "policy"

which will cause fractioning of the brand, which will likely make it unlikely for them to have this level of power again for at least a generation

It sure helps to treat the symptoms though. It might not fix everything, but it sure would fix one thing.

I find it crazy how many so called isolationists support him on this. His whole platform was isolationism yet apparently more than 80% of his base supports this unprovoked war now.

it's called bandwagoning.

when he is gone, they will have never have supported him...

you know i have had this argument with my doctor. you still have to treat the symptoms. treating the cause means you have to treat less symptoms, but you still have to treat the symptoms or death comes a lot faster.

[–] mech@feddit.org 3 points 5 days ago

But him dying at the exact end of his ultimatum to Iran would still be funny.

And when you get really sick and go to hospital, the first thing that happens is they control your temperature so your fever doesn't kill you. Fever is a symptom. A symptom that can cause irrevocable damage to your entire system.
