Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Apparently he confessed to his dad, and his dad did his best Daniel Jones impression and immediately called the cops.

Oh interesting.

Remember, everyone: fish get caught through the mouth.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 17 points 9 months ago (2 children)

His dad is a Morman sheriff in Utah...

Besides his skin tone being "blank piece of copy paper" that's likey the main reason he was taken in alive.

It's not like he told his "dad" so much as turned himself in.

There's going to be a lot of pressure for him to plea out, that way the government can say whatever they want. He might even get Epstein's in jail, they've already committed to a narrative, they can't let him take the stand or worse start giving interviews about why he did it

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 11 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I’m pretty sure they’re not gonna let him plea out. They seem to be very aggressively gunning for the death penalty

That was before they knew who he was...

They want a Black transexual with blue hair, and they got a white suburban kid from a prominent Mormon and Republican family...

Maga is scared shitless of the Mormon, if they break away Republicans are fucked without Utah.

And their more loyal to a random member of their own church than to trump. trump is going to quickly pivot to wanting everyone to stop paying attention by Monday.

Doubtful. Mormons aren't going to support murder and Kirk had that veneer of reasonableness that made him the wolf in sheep's clothing that he was. Despite quotes being thrown around, Kirk's fascism was more subtle because otherwise he wouldn't have attracted the uninitiated the way he did.

Mormons will disown him and MAGA will keep their hold on Utah. It might even increase since everyone loves a martyr.

Mormons aren’t going to support murder

...

Have you heard, like, anything about Mormanism?

Quick edit:

Like, too many examples for me to possibly list them all, but Netflix made a whole TV show about this one:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_Meadows_Massacre

The Mountain Meadows Massacre (September 7–11, 1857) was a series of attacks during the Utah War that resulted in the mass murder of at least 120 members of the Baker–Fancher wagon train.[1][a] The massacre occurred in the southern Utah Territory at Mountain Meadows, and was perpetrated by settlers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) involved with the Utah Territorial Militia (officially called the Nauvoo Legion) who recruited and were aided by some Southern Paiute Native Americans.[2] The wagon train, made up mostly of immigrant families from Arkansas, was bound for California, traveling on the Old Spanish Trail that passed through the Territory.

Why are maga "scared shitless of the mormon" ? Serious question. Not American.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

They have 100 billion in a "wealth fund" for the church, about 40% of which is in the US stock market.

The members of their church are also incredibly submissive and will do whatever their church leaders say, including voting.

Republicans have a very thin majority in both the House and Senate.

Losing the Mormon church, would mean trump loses majority in both. And would prevent a Republican from becoming president.

They're a very large and important bloc of the Republican party.

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago

Much more than $100B. At least double.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago

Also could destabilize Republican influence in Arizona and Idaho as well, while their influence in Arizona is waning slightly their influence in Idaho especially southern Idaho is still extremely strong.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I bet they will give him a good deal if he says he feels a little bit trans now

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Rock and a hard place...

If he says he's LGBTQ, the church disowns him and Utah will push for death penalty again.

His best bet is to double down on Mormonism and say he did it for all the reasons Kirk and MAGA go against the Mormon teachings.

Which again, worst case scenario for trump because he can't afford to lose Utah and the Mormon church controls Utah politics.

We're gonna have to see how the next week goes, but this could lead to a huge fracture ahead of midterms. Republicans have a 6 seat lead, and 4 seats in Utah are up in 2026.

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago

Utah will never go blue again. It's horridly gerrymandered here.

[–] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 10 points 9 months ago

His dad called a youth pastor, who then called the police. It's in the linked article.

[–] FailBetter@crust.piefed.social 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I'm confused on the Daniel Jones reference--he seems to just be a NFL player?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Danny "Dimes" is what his teammates called him as a Rookie on the Giants.

Because he was "throwing dimes", or perfect passes. But only when he was throwing perfect passes, which as the #6 overall pick he should have always been doing.

He hated the nickname, and it seems pretty obvious his teammates were fucking with him. But after being traded to a new team, beating out the guy who was supposed to be the face of the team for starting QB and a recent top 10 pick, and then playing an amazing week 1 people are using it again.

So definitely a deep cut, and I'm honestly I'm surprised it took this long for someone to ask. I think a lot of people just blindly upvoted.

But Daniel Jones is known for "throwing dimes" and this guy's dad "dropped a dime".
