Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I know I'm going to get downvoted but I use FSD every day. It's not perfect but it keeps getting better, and it's already the best solution out there. If you haven't actually used it then all you have is someone else's opinion.
Stipulated: Elon still lied about the timetable.
Stipulated: Eton helping Trump and doing DOGE made me sick to watch.
Calling it full-self driving is also a lie, and that lie kills people. Whether it’s a good product or not isn’t really the issue.
FSD isn't even close to the best solution.
It is why it is still illegal in the EU while other manufacturers have gotten approval.
Mercedes-Benz: Approved for Level 3 autonomous driving (Drive Pilot system) in Germany since 2021
Pony.ai: Became the first company to receive ministerial authorisation for autonomous car testing on public roads in Luxembourg in March 2025
Teslas approval: literally 0
Mercedes:
Tesla:
Regardless of the marketing, both companies claim the same thing in the asterisk: Hands at the ready, attentive driver ready to take over.
I'm sure the lawyers made them put that in for liability purposes, regardless of how good the tech is.
When I had a Tesla, FSD Supervised was pretty damn impressive for what it did.
I could go basically door to door for my usual errands, which was super nice.
But I'll never buy another Tesla while Elon is at all connected.
Then you’re a constant, proven, and clear danger to the public.
Does your car still have sonar and whatnot, or does it only use optical sensors? I think I remember there like being a switch to not using sonar anymore a while back and I got the impression that was a big detriment to Tesla's self driving ability
Tesla actually removed software use of the lidars on the cars that had them, to "unify the stack". So, the Tesla Model 3 2020 I had became worse as they "upgraded" the software stack.
Now driving a VW ID.7. It's "autopilot" (travel assist) is far superior to Tesla's autopilot. However, it does not have or pretend to have FSD.
Tesla's FSD is impressive for what it can do. I would however be extremely wary to use it because it tries to do more than it should - being unable to handle edge cases.
ultrasonic sensors were never used outside of auto parking anyways
Wait, really? Why have I never heard anyone mention that??
no idea, but they have such a low range they aren't very useful for self-driving which relies more on understanding your surroundings and planning a route.
Have you seen the comma device? Effectively a lil android device with a camera that plugs into obd port.
I don't think that's toooo different from Tesla or many other automakers. None of them call it 'self driving'. They're driver assistants.
There is a huge difference in the hardware and the software used for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems for different vehicles.
For example. Mercedes-Benz S-Classes Driver Fatigue Monitoring had been detecting the eyeline and posture of drivers, for 10 years before other manufacturers started using timer-based Driver Fatigue Systems.
The Optical object recognition systems in the ADAS of most Volume brands is barely functional at best, while the single-RADAR object recognition of the ADAS in luxury brands is adequate to reduce collisions.
Even the multi-RADAR systems of premium Luxury vehicles should only be considered “Driver Assistance” .
