Does anyone still remember the little football button that YouTube added to the video player? Good times.
I've often been like "I don't know why people complain about Fandom, this is fine". And then I saw what the site looks like without uBlock. Sweet merciful heavens. Hey, there's some ads. Let's cram some ads in the ads. Some prime blank space? Shove some annoying video things in there. Autoplaying. See that navigation bar over there? Let's make it pointless. (If you come to the article via web search, surely you want to read about some completely random stuff in another game!)
Fandom is garbage, Fextralife is garbage (and at this rate will probably be bought by Fandom one day). Indie wikis rule.
Don't look at the details. Maybe look at the big picture.
Funny thing, Pixelfed isn't even a competitor to Instagram in the very very strictest sense.
Pixelfed is a federated service for posting photos.
Instagram started out as a service for posting photos, but it has become this... thing. I don't even know anymore.
rm -rf /can brick your system
Well good thing there's basically no legitimate reason to ever even use rm -rf / anyway so GNU version is perfectly within its rights to refuse to do that by default, am I right? If you know what you're doing and want to nuke partitions, that's what cfdisk and mkfs are for, dammit
Kinect 2.0 is the one for Xbox One, right? That one has a proprietary plug and needs an adapter of some kind for PC. Finding one now needs some effort. Would have been neat if it supported the Xbox 360 Kinect because it has a standard USB connector.
Yeah, I was about to say.
Perl 5 is like Esperanto: borrowed neat features from many languages, somehow kinda vaguely making a bit of sense. Enjoyed some popularity back in the day but is kind of niche nowadays.
PHP is like Volapük: same deal, but without the linguistic competence and failing miserably at being consistent.
Raku (Perl 6) is like Esperanto reformation efforts: Noble and interesting scholarly pursuits, with dozens of fans around the multiverse.
Apropos of nothing - a few months ago I was looking at one of the sites that curated Fediverse block lists. (Can't remember which one.)
Now some of the blocks were quite reasonable. If a hundred site admins look at your site and go "wait a second, these guys are Nazis" and block the site, that's not so controversial, OK?
But some of the blocks were, uh, how do I put this...?
Individual drama between site admins and their cliques.
Beef.
So much beef.
So much beef that I immediately thought "gee, how can c/vegan even safely exist in Lemmy? There's so much beef everywhere."
Salmo has two AI packages commanding him to take five loaves of bread to the Two Sisters Lodge at 10am and to the West Weald Inn at midday, but the packages never execute as he has no bread in his inventory and the packages are of "escort" type, meaning he doesn't actively seek any out. It's possible this bug was introduced to avoid another, more serious one: if bread is given to Salmo using the console or CS, he will walk to one of the inns as commanded, take a bite of bread, and the game will crash. (UESP)
Right, this is classic Bethesda stuff right here.
Eclipse
Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time.
Will probably need to check this out.

Well, sure, with an image classifier, the bird identification is doable. I'm sure I could implement that if I went looking for some open source thingamabob that does that. But it's still not something I could actually understand. That part definitely hasn't changed over the years.
