Look at this dumbass mistake

Instead of working on the 6 other projects on the craft table, I started a new one of a comfy basic T shirt. Straight seams on serger, neckline on regular machine. If I had any common sense, I'd just do a fold-over neckline, but no, I had to do the lil collar, with a scrap of bias tape to hide my sins (forgot to turn the collar so the back seam was on the inside). Also need to tack down a few points where my knit fabric wiggled away from under the seam.

Dang, I can't even have an original idea. But no surprise the NIMBYs gonna NIMBY.

Is this idea completely whack?

Was thinking on the homeless encampments my local news constantly wrings their hands over: what if we gave them an official space to camp on? With bathroom facilities & trash infrastructure? A tent is a lot more affordable than a house or a car.

It wouldn't solve everything, but it would mitigate a lot of material reasons why DIY urban encampments get routed & bulldozed.

2 standard African violets (one a scraggly guy in need of a repot once he's out of rehab), 2 primulina bebes (paper cups inside a teeny terracotta pot so hopefully they stop falling over), and 2 AV leaves that WILL propagate and give me flowers, dammit.

Terrarium setup seems like it would be better for my executive dysfunction. Much easier to avoid algae growth (and prevent the suffering of fish).

Planning to add a pebble or leca substrate, but keep my big plants potted. I do love me some mosses, might commit to moss directly in my tank. Also planning to get better bulbs in the aquarium hood, but this African violet and strep have been needing rehab for the last few weeks/months.

Sadly, the fastest & best solution to housing shortage is for the government to build it, but our government can't do things anymore.

I had sushi pants, but I've gained weight since then and no one has goofy print flannel like JoAnn (PBUH) did. This pic is from the last time I remade the sushi pants (time before last I gained weight), which shows the fabric wear from how much I loved those pants. Tho it's not like cheap JoAnn flannel was that high quality.

As someone who grew up in Dust Bowl country, if the indigenous people in the region stayed nomadic for umpteen thousand years, there's a couple few fukken reasons for it.

Also admire my cute travel gaiwan set I bought for no good reason.....unless...

It's established that strainer > tea bag, but jeebus, I hate having to scrub out stuck dried leaf bits the next morning. Could I just dump the wet leaves out before they stick? Bruh, do you know how much easier my life would be if I didn't forget so much lil shit the moment I take my eyes off it?

But maybe it's an excellent post hoc excuse for my unnecessary gaiwan purchase. It's so much easier to clean a gaiwan, even with a lip for the strainer lid, than to get all the little bits unstuck from the strainer holes.

I don't get as much tradwife bullshit as I'm afraid of because the algo also sees my exvangelical and raging feminist and general SJW clicks. I run into it more IRL because I'm Midwestern. That little old lady in the knitting group might be cool or she might be scared of the hijabis at the grocery store, and there's often not very many clues until the right topic comes up.

The Everyday Anarchism podcast had an episode, Tolkien's Romantic Anarchy, that gave me very many thoughts & feelings that I'm going to barf out here.

Yes, Tolkien is a Catholic fossil who built a world of eugenic-flavored world of racialized and patriarchal hierarchy, but you can tell he didn't want to live in Minas Tirith with the courtly remnants of the Numenorians. He wanted to live in the Shire, where the fanciest gentlehobbits still had relationships with their farmer neighbors and gardeners.

They were talking about how most people, conservative, liberal, or progressive, idealize that village life with lots of relationships and nature. (Put a pin in that.) Because obviously that's how the fascists reel em in, the weaponized airbrushed fairytale picture of the free, good life, where the men are men, and the slurs and the scapegoats are pushed out.

But in trying to avoid that pitfall, we leftier people lose out on that joy of second breakfasts and frolicing around in waistcoats and dirndls. I am that bitch whose algorithm is narrowed down on all the hobbitcore and cottagecore and crafting content and is dangerously close to the tradwife pipeline. I live in the tension where I'm next door to the fun cosplay queers but also the conspiracy theorists who want me trap me in the kitchen as a pregnant household appliance.

But because the people yearn for the village life, we need that playful imagination to apply to urban living. We need a nice version of RETVRN in small towns where they have the freedom from car dependence (choo choo MF) and aren't desperate and scrabbling to afford the cheapest shit shipped in from overseas. My ass is from a long line of sedentary dirtstratchers, but I'm fascinated with how long humanity lived (and is sometimes currently living) in semi-nomadic patterns for millions of years and what that might look like in the modern age with a preference for plumbing and lugging all the sweet, sweet modern gadgets around. (I'm not in the camping hobby, so I don't know what kind of hobbyist infighting they have about low-tech or high-tech.)

I need people to do more of this creative play with me, preferably people who are better about getting them words out and published on AO3 or other platforms. (I quit Wattpad a million years ago, and I don't know what good options there are for original fics.)
