I was having a chat about this with a UX guy. His argument for using a similar flow was that the username/email will have to be validated at the point of registration anyway so you might as well make it easier for the user when the email is wrong. I couldn't really refute this logic.
If you throttle both login and registration, then surely the risk is minimised while keeping the user happy?
Tap and go has been super nice in South Wales. It makes things so much easier and cheaper too. My only fear with this announcement is that it doesn't sound like it covers too large of an area so it could be that you still have to get tickets if you are traveling between local cities. This ideally needs to be on a national level, but I doubt that would happen considering how fragmented our public transport system is.

Valve do have a history of popularising shading monetisation techniques e.g. battle passes. They are better than a lot of the competition, but far from being the saint that a lot of gamers believe them to be.
Even if there is a investigation, it'll probably go in a similar direction as the Russia Report a few years ago: stalled, played around like a political football, then forgotten about, or anything meaningful being "out of scope".
I've got a similar model. Build quality is pretty good. Although I have had issues with the speakers and one of the charging ports (there is redundancy here tho as it comes with 2 USBC). Chassis is all aluminium. Not sure exactly the touchpad material - probably plastic, with no haptics.
Overall the design is modelled on Macbooks with great screens and similar shape, but with handy extras like some actual ports.
They are just white-labeled from other companies so you might be able to find them cheaper, but overall they are sold at a fair price compared to mainstream brands.
Compared to login or password reset, you rarely see the email validate before register flow, especially for mobile apps etc. That makes it pretty hard to make the case that this needs to be actioned from a security perspective when even the big companies are not following it either.
