I'm sorry to say this, but this is survivorship bias. We produced plenty of crap that broke a few months after use even 50 years ago, it's just that you don't notice the crap because it was thrown away after it broke and all you see now is the stuff that surprisingly made it for decades. That's not to say that enshittification and planned obsolescence is not a thing, it's just not as extreme and "we used to build things that lasted" as people would like to believe.

Anecdotally, for me biking with studded tires on an icy road feels more comfortable and grippy than biking in autumn on wet leafs. It's crazy how much of a difference studded tires make in these conditions and how easy it is to adapt to them.

I have 6 for personal use, which makes accounting so much easier. I assign a budget at the beginning of the month and at any time I have a good overview of how much I spent for that duration.
To illustrate, this is how I split my accounts:

• personal expenses
• household budget / groceries. This one's a shared account with my GF
• savings
• credit card
• rent / utilities. Pay in a fixed amount each month, slightly higher than average spending and then not get shafted when insurance or a high electricity bill is due.
• work travel. This one is the exception. It's empty unless I travel somewhere for work, then I top it up and at the end I copy and paste all my expenses from this account for travel reimbursement

I spend less than 15 minutes each month on accounting and the only downside is that I have to set up several budgets and carry a round several cards to pay with. Once a year I go through the accounts and adjust budgets if necessary.

In the future, and they’re not too distant future mind you, the technology will finally advance to the point where we can begin to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. But we’re not there yet and we’re not talking governments and people into giving up their jobs and lifestyle until we can offer them technology but doesn’t require that. That’s just a simple fact

We've had this technology for decades already. Trains / Buses for transportation, local bikes, solar and wind power for electricity. Sure, this wasn't 100% carbon neutral and still is not, but we've had the opportunity to heavily reduce our fossil fuel dependence for decades without compromising on lifestyle.

I'm not too much into British elections but from what I've gathered he's mostly doing satire and making fun of absurd politics and politicians, whereas Trump was only ever in it for his own gain.
