This is only a problem for those who own numerous investment properties. Those people will survive. It could be bad for anyone struggling to pay a mortgage, because they no longer have the option to sell. We'll need policy to protect those people, 0 interest maybe. Also sucks for anyone planning to sell and retire on the cash. Everyone else wins big time.

Working on my backlog is literally all of my gaming. Currently catching up on the old Assassin's Creed games. Well worth it.

Exactly. This post actually reinforces why I don't want to alter my reality. That little window of interpretation is absolutely remarkable, it's all we have to anchor us to the outside world and I will never give that up. Not that I'm dead against occasional hallucinogenics, but our perception is an amazing thing and I feel bad for people who don't appreciate it.

Makes a lot of sense they'd do this in preparation for the PS6. Hopefully it's just temporary.

Honestly I don't know if it was a financially sensible move releasing exclusives to PC, but it was great for gamers while it lasted. Maybe they could go linux only in future to really take a stab at Microsoft. Ha.

This article gives some insight, https://7news.com.au/news/australian-passport-fees-to-jump-again-in-2025-heres-what-youll-pay--c-17225775

It sounds to me that it's the most expensive in the world because it can be and it raises money. The government and DFAT say it's expensive because of the technological sophistication, which is why it's highly trusted worldwide, and the cost pays for it's expensive production.

But New Zealands is just as powerful and only costs $205 AUD, and Singapore's is considered the worlds most powerful and only costs $83 AUD. Maybe the sophistication isn't so important, maybe the costs are just way lower there, or maybe it's subsidised.

I bet if it becomes a political issue they'll drop the price in a heartbeat to make themselves look good. Australian (Libral party) governments have a history of cutting costs and raising prices in every way they can get away with to make their budget look good.

Another interesting point is the US passport was $252 AUD back in 2024, but comparethemarket.com.au lists it as $414 in 2026. Massive hike. Probably because Trump.

I miss that games were completely finished and polished, put on a disk, and never touched again.

No one's said Infamous yet. Shocking. Well Infamous. You get to choose if you're going to be good or bad and it's super satisfying either way. Dishonered has that same sort of choice, also amazing whichever way you go.

It's not even that old, why'd they remove it?

Fair enough. Does your girlfriend know?

TLDR excerpts:

“I think [DLSS 5] is the perfect example of the disconnect between what we as developers and gamers want and what the nasty freaks who are destroying the world and consolidating all wealth into the hands of the few using GPUs think we want,”

“This is so disrespectful to the intentional art direction of devs,” said Ortiz. “If devs wanted to lean in to hyper realism, they would.”

Every dev I talked to, even those who didn’t want to be included in this feature, all told me they hated DLSS 5 and were offended by Nvidia’s announcement and how it seemingly overwrote the work of talented artists, modelers, and other game devs.

“People debate if video games are ‘art,’ but I prefer to see video games as galleries. Every game has many different forms of art within. Animation and sound design are separate yet complementary pieces of art. Although separate, every piece works together to create a full, cohesive product. [DLSS 5] deconstructs the gallery. It breaks away one piece of the full experience and returns a game into segmented elements. It won’t ruin a game, but it does destroy its purest expression, and to that, all I have to ask is, what is the point?”

“It’s not an over exaggeration to say what DLSS 5 represents has taken a serious toll on my mental health. Most tech feels like the pursuit of knowledge by passionate and obsessive individuals…This feels like an artless desecration of the medium itself by a company with a stranglehold on the global economy,”
