you can use "fell" as a transitive verb. it's a little archaic but sounds cozy.

I think there's a lot of truth to what you're saying, though there's a little more to the story. for reasons I don't understand, the UK specifically has always been terfier than other Western countries. more lgb-friendly, but historically anti-trans. MumsNet was full of terfs with very similar demographics to Rowling years before trans awareness hit the spotlight.

I think we did a poor job educating potential allies and making a case for ourselves, in a way that got weaponized against us, but terf ideology is as old as Janice Raymond and second-wave feminism. I'm not sure Rowling specifically would have ever been on board.

I actually don't think Trump is behind this one. hear me out:

there are two factions emerging within MAGA. the Evangelicals and MAGA-leaning neocons are heavily Zionist, so there's no way they'd let this happen. the second faction are the alt-right/groypers/white nationalists, who simp for Nick Fuentes and Laura Loomer. Gen Z belongs overwhelmingly to this second camp, as illustrated by the Young Republicans discord leak.

Trump himself has no political views other than his own power and personal vengeance, but I'd still put him closer to the first camp since he's a Boomer, and he's in Bibi's pocket. so I think whoever pushed for this is probably part of the same cabal that posts Nazi dogwhistles on DHS's Twitter - part of the second camp.

and that second camp will become the future of the Republican party, unfortunately.

I'm old and remember when all the trans women were Haskellers. now they've all moved to Rust and here I am, still toiling away with my monads and combinators, a lonely spinster. 😔
