I don't care if it's piefed, as long it is threadiverse. Which ones do have them already?

Life would've been so much simpler if the major Italian payment provider was not an asshole. But it has always been, even if now US competitors have come down to the same level.

Over the past few months, our former payment provider Nexi S.p.A. (“Nexi”) requested access to private data, which we understood to be specifically the usernames and passwords of our supporters. We have refused this request. All our attempts to clarify Nexi’s request, or to understand how their need for such information was necessary and legal, were met with what we consider to be vague and unsatisfactory explanations relating to a general need for risk analysis.

Was intended to be about Kremlin propaganda, which is by far the strongest, but Trump and the rest of the world are getting so crappy that it's difficult to abstain from ridiculing them too.

I thought people here might be interested in another effort for a community that is not only about technology, but about any attempts to control us whatsoever. Naturally, a big topic there is politics. But it's not party politics. It's politics of everyday life.

I don't want to use swearwords. I hope I'm allowed not to in this freedom you're telling me about.

Certainly taking back control of own infrastructure and developing in-house expertise, while saving thousands on unused cloud resources contributes to economic growth.

Since when chips are measured in euros and not in nanometres? Or is it just the press release that cares more about "fund utilisation" then actual achievement of the technology?

What's wrong with Sony being Japanese, other than being one of the greatest brands in history?

I guess it's quite probable their tradition and culture don't value opens source so much

China is a joke here. But it's not representative.

More than obvious that they'd rather allow Ukrainians than rednecks in.

Mass migration of US scientists to Europe

"According to data from the European Research Council (ERC), the European Union’s premier funding agency for basic research, applications from the United States for its starting, consolidator and advanced grants to individual researchers — worth up to €2.5 million apiece over five years — rose by 120% in its most recent round of calls, compared with an overall rise in applications of 17% (see ‘Choosing Europe’)."

How I miss the "do one thing and do it well" attitude in commercial services. Why do they have to convert any nice product into a s.itshow? It can't be that investors want good services to become worse...

From how you describe your context (similar to mine), you don't seem to need to backup images. Few local images mean little impact of possible failures.

Other than the title being the most meaningful comment in this matter, this article explains the broader context of starlink on the front and possible alternatives.

It doesn't answer the question, possibly because it does not have the evidence to confirm that it's because the Kremlin now can afford some other alternative. Time will tell.

Given all the comments missing the point (also written in the title), I appreciate that yours would pass the message better

"At a mushroom hot pot restaurant there, the server set a timer for 15 minutes and warned us, 'Don't eat it until the timer goes off or you might see little people,'" says Colin Domnauer, a doctoral candidate in biology at the University of Utah and the Natural History Museum of Utah, who is studying L. asiatica. "It seems like very common knowledge in the culture there."

Domnauer is on a quest to solve the decades-old mysteries about this fungi species and identify the unknown compound responsible for its unusually similar hallucinations – as well as what it can potentially teach us about the human brain.
