Now imagine your sales declined by less than 50% and how much extra profit that would be.

Prior to the pandemic companies would be careful about raising prices. If they raised prices by 5% and lost 10% of sales, that was less profitable than not increasing the price. But the legit supply chain shortages during the pandemic made them realize that a larger subset of customers were willing to pay significantly higher prices than they thought, and they also realized they had less competition than they thought, and now everything costs double and we all just call it inflation, because that's what inflation is. When the price of everything goes up at the same time.

History should be taught like his-STORY because it is a story. One of my favorite middle school history teachers taught us history as if it was a story book and the historical figures were characters, which made it interesting to listen to, while also being contiguous.

By teaching history as a disjointed series of dates and events, schools fulfill their obligations to have a class be taught without actually teaching the critical thinking people need to understand current events. How much of this is intentional to cause students to grow into adults who vote against their own interests, or simply a result of paying teachers less than McDonald's workers I do not know.

For scammers, the 24 hour waiting period completely breaks their scams. They won't be able to trick people into installing malware if they have to call back to resume the scam the next day. Google said that was their goal and their new solution actually does this without impeding power users.

There are a lot of reports of simple.life being a scam app. Charging people more than they agreed on and not honoring requests to cancel, being auto-subscribed to other 'offers', and the app not providing the info they claim it does. I filled out their questionnaire but did a bit of digging and stopped before giving them any payment. They still have my info though...

I'd argue the opposite. We need more things to be free and standardized. There is no universal way to send a file, store a file, send a text or picture message for example. Email, with a basic design that's over 40 years old has had to fulfill all of that itself, and does so reasonable well, all things considered.
