So you dragged stuff around and clicked them for such games with a stylus? Never had such a device.

Unvanquished is a free, open-source first-person strategy game shooter, pitting technologically advanced human soldiers against hordes of highly adaptable aliens. Players can choose from either team, providing for an entirely different experience on both sides, as humans focus on long-range firepower while aliens rely instead on quick movement and stealth. The goal of each match is to destroy the enemy base, preventing members of the opposing team from spawning. Upgrades for both teams are earned by a combination of individual performance and team map control, unlocking access to more powerful weapons and equipment for the humans, and larger, more ferocious forms for the aliens.

Yeah I think the "dark forest theory" is focused on human to human interaction / "civilized people" interacting with each other. And other people hiding from them. And "dark forest" is a misnomer because of this.

I would call it "dark ghost-town" theory.

πŸ™‚β€β†”οΈ in the screenshot you can see this shaking head emoji, as it is displayed in my terminal, it seems to not recognize the (newer) emoji made up of 2 unicode parts.

πŸ™‚β€+ ↔️ = πŸ™‚β€β†”οΈ

Do I need to update the emoji, font, where do I get one? Is there a configuration option in terminals, like xfce-terminal, for this?

Other "bugs" include:

  • the oil-barrel emoji is way to big for some reason.
  • some emoji are colored, while some have only one color

What is your experience with emojis in linux terminals, equally inconsistent to mine?

time to use public/private key-pairs to identify address owners, like yggdrasil-network does it for example, instead of antiquated centralized dns

What is your share ratio?Must be good, since you help seeding so much! size ratio of "Uploaded / Downloaded " > 1 I guess

How many Gigawatt does it cost per day to run such a storage system (at idle)?

They downloaded 300 Terra-byte of Spotify song data, metadata and files and share it as a torrent 😲.

Industrial uses of beef tallow o.o

For the past few weeks, when I was updating my website, the tor browser reported that my onion address is not available.

Turns out, the systemd service that I use to run the onion service broke in between the migration. I still have no idea why. But I noticed that the Apparmor service is also failed to run.

It’s like a dark forest that seems eerily devoid of human life – all the living creatures are hidden beneath the ground or up in trees. If they reveal themselves, they risk being attacked by automated predators.

That dark forest is about to expand . Large Language Models (LLMs) that can instantly generate coherent swaths of human-like text have just joined the party.

Yeah I still remember the time in 2017 where search was not as locked down (on github) as it is today. I kind of miss it.

You will be unable to search anything. Besides wikipedia I like the hypothesis "Good sites need to hide to not get spammed by bad actors" a lot.

Would you agree that it is bad UI, or do you just expect social media platforms to be this way nowadays for users who are not logged in (to mitigate spamming of the search functionality I guess)?

I prefer cables over Bluetooth and wifi:

  • Ethernet over WiFi
  • USB cable over Bluetooth
  • cabled headphone over Bluetooth headphone

While this increases convenience this also introduces new attack vectors (denial of service by jamming for example, tracking, or impersonation and mtm attacks).

Every person who uses wireless devices constantly emits signals into space. These can be obviously monitored, according to the laws of physics the inverse square law limits the range of such detection capabilities. Also depends on the electromagnetic noise in your environment: Jammers/other people.

  • Geolocation with wifi environment.

Is this the beginning of enshittification of bluesky? I can not search their website using the search icon they present to me on their website.

I heard about Argos Translate, which is used by libretranslate github link. It can be used for offline translations.

But I was unable to get it running locally on my machine to test it. As far as i know they translate by routing many different translators together, which may produce worse results (for example French -> English -> Chinese

Rosetta Code is a programming chrestomathy site. The idea is to present solutions to the same task in as many different languages as possible, to demonstrate how languages are similar and different, and to aid a person with a grounding in one approach to a problem in learning another. Rosetta Code currently has 1,339 tasks, 397 draft tasks, and is aware of 984 languages, though we do not (and cannot) have solutions to every task in every language.

While browsing the web I look at the resources webpages want to load.

Sometimes (not that rare) they attempt to load scripts and resources from google owned domains:

  • google fonts
  • storage.googleapis.com
  • ajax.googleapis.com
  • gstatic (I assume this is also some google shit)
  • youtube (obviously)

Are you more distrustful of such sites, do you block their resource loading attempts? What are other google services/domains like this, often embedded into 3rd party websites?

I use decentraleyes and block js from loading using no scripts, I use a few other extensions two but those are the main ones

This is a cool new feature:

Post scheduling: Specify when your post should be published.

While I think this feature is useful, potentially even to increase user anonymity by hiding their usage patterns more, could people abuse it, and spam posts scheduled 100 years in the future?

Missouri is the third American state to take up mid-decade redistricting in an emerging national battle for partisan advantage ahead of 2026 midterm elections.

Segregation line between Black, white residents

Trump is trying to stave off a historic trend in which the president's party typically loses seats in midterm elections.

Republicans currently hold six of Missouri's eight US House seats.

The revised map passed the state House earlier this week as the focal point of a special session called by Kehoe.

Missouri's revised map targets a seat held by Democratic US Representative Emanuel Cleaver by shaving off portions of his Kansas City district and stretching the rest of it into Republican-heavy rural areas.

The plan reduces the number of Black and minority residents in Cleaver's district, partly by creating a dividing line along a street that Cleaver said had been a historical segregation line between Black and white residents.

Understandable. But at least you recognize your dependence on the services.
