Millenial.

I know recognize the 2000s being the decade of trade-offs.

The 2010s had CDs finally disappearing,
CCFL-LCDs finally disappearing, ugly blocky 3D-games finally disappearing, HDs finally disappearing.

LED screens, OLED screens for phones finally became popular.
Color finally returned to normalcy again.

SSDs became popular.
Copying your files from a device to a computer finally returned to normalcy again.

The 2020s has AI and HBM.

We also have solar replacing fossil fuels.
Air quality is returning to normalcy again.

We also have medical technology like anti-obesity drugs becoming popular and possibly even anti-aging drugs.
Human health is returning to normalcy again.

Mass internet adoption took a full decade.

The 1990s had better graphics almost every year.
One year you were playing single-color blocks with bleeps and bloops
and the next year you're suddenly looking at controlling real looking people with sound and music.

You just didn’t think it was special because you were growing up with it.

It wasn't special because adoption happened painfully slow.

HD home media in the form of Blu-Ray

Blu-Ray was just another fancier DVD, which was another fragile CD.
It wasn't a completely new looking device like SD cards, USB sticks or floppy disks.

1990 -> 2000

Commander Keen -> Quake III Arena

2000 -> 2010

Quake III Arena -> Quake Live

There's a big difference between the first period.
Not so much the second.

2000s were awful in my view.
Slow technological progress compared to the fast-paced changes during the 1990s.
I was constantly frustrated by subpar technologies that took one leap upwards and five steps back.
CD-Rs that could not be rewritten,
LCD screens that you could not view from the side and had these washed-out colors,
and people actually complained when those colors improved in the 2010s with LED
because "we don't like those candy colors"
Slow internet that kept being slow as webpages got larger faster.
The whole decade should have been condensed to a year.

The only good thing about it was that computer parts were cheap.
And anime.

The 2010s picked up the pace and the 2020s are just crazy,
maybe even faster paced than the 1990s.

[edit]

I see people disagreeing, so I'll double down on why the 2000s were awful.

The 2000s had Ugly 3D replacing beautiful 2D.
The 2000s had ppl tlkng l1k3 d1s.
The 2000s had Fred being #1 on youtube.

During the 2000s gross-out movies were popular.
The 2000s had the movie Idiocracy which was not a prediction, but a reflection of its time.
Because it was a painfully stupid time.
Same goes for Wall-E, who envisioned a far-future where everyone is painfully fat,
because they couldn't imagine anti-obesity drugs being invented,
despite the precursor of semaglutide having already been invented at that time.

It's also a time where 'gamer' stopped meaning having fun playing various types of games
at the arcades or Commodore 64, and instead started to exclusively mean
having the fastest rig possible in order to play a foot soldier in war games,
especially FPS shooters like Counterstrike, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Call of Duty, etc..
and to a lesser extend strategy war games like starcraft and MMORPGs like WoW.

[edit #2]

Perhaps advancement wasn't necessarily slow, but every advancement was a trade-off in the 2000s.

Beautiful 2D -> Ugly 3D
Bulky CRTs -> Bad-angle badly colored flatscreens
Curated TV -> Poor-quality internet videos
low-storage sturdy floppy disks -> Read-only fragile CDs
A whole new world of communication -> A whole decade wh3r3 ppl tlkd l1k3 d1s

The only exception, again, was anime.

What are the odds?

[–] folaht@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago

That's more like it.

There would always be loyal followers, plus oligarchs with lots of drones who all want to maintain power.

[–] folaht@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What's the exact law called?

[–] folaht@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like a good start.

Since four of the first five answers I've seen are so mild, let me give you what my list would include and tell me if I'm wrong or if I'm missing something:

  • Imprisonment and possessions seized for all those known to have committed child sexual abuse from the Epstein files
  • Imprisonment and possessions seized for all those related to Trump's corruption schemes which are:
    • Stealing oil from Venezuela
    • Insider trading during the current aggressive unprovoked full-scale genocide against Iran, Lebanon and possibly all nations in the Middle East, including US all allied nations in the Middle East except for Israel.
    • Cryptocoin frauds
  • Imprisonment and possessions seized for all those involved in war crimes
  • Designate all detractors of these demands as rape, murder, thievery, and pedophile protectors

  • Establishment of an independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate allegations of ICE brutality
  • Retraction of any designation for this protest made as anything other than peaceful
  • Release of every political arrest made during this protest and any protest prior that are still in prison with exception of the Jan 6th Capitol storming
  • Reimprisonment of every pardoned criminal during Trump's presidency

  • An amendment that abolishes the first past the post winner-takes-all system.
    • Instead it should have indirect elections to prevent campaign fraud (so you only elect local leaders, who elect those above them) and an approval voting system, but if that is deemed to radical here, then at least have initial proportional representation, with a majority amount of seats shuffled towards the winning coalition in order to prevent lame duck governance.
    • If indirect elections with approval voting is considered acceptable, I suggest that each for political position one must complete a civil exam created by an independent institution. Failing to pass will result into disqualification for that term's elections.
  • An amendment that guarantees all citizens, including prisoners universal basic income
  • An amendment that guarantees all citizens ownership of basic housing
  • An amendment that guarantees all citizens ownership a basic amount of land that can prove themselves to be Indigenous First Nations US-soil Native American
  • Rewrite the 13th amendment to abolish of slavery in prisons
  • An amendment that secures roaming rights by making any vagrancy and loitering law illegal
    • Have the amendment above include making it illegal to restrict access to gated communities. So no walking or driving around 10-meter-high, kilometer-wide walls.
  • Amendment that guarantees continuous slower traffic paths through faster traffic paths, so walkways > bike lanes > roads.

  • Repeal the Patriot Act
  • Universal Health Care
  • Nationalize all casinos except those owned by native Americans
  • End all sanctions and embargoes on other countries
  • Close down the Board of Peace
  • Close down all ICE death camps

I briefly went back in time myself and ended up in someone's apartment of some painter guy.
I hit an easel and it dropped causing a noise. He woke up and starting dabbling "you filthy thief!" and took out a knife. We fought and I cut his ear off in the fight. Then I suddenly was brought back, so I must have disappeared in front of his eyes.

I heard he went crazy afterwards with history accusing him
that he cut off his own ear,
but I'm afraid to look him up now on wikipedia.

My own take:

Because he can't visit Epstein island no more.

I already have these three covered:

Ex-NSDAP voter: "I voted for Adolf Hitler three times thinking he was going to be the peace candidate. Boy, was I wrong."

KPD voter: "Hitler is the worst Reichskanzler we've ever had."
NSDAP voter: "Lol, you have clear case of HDS."
KPD voter: "What's HDS?"
NSDAP voter: "Hitler Derangement Syndrome."

SocDems: "I really despise the Rabbis' influence over the Jewish people, but what the Nazis are doing to the Jews right now is bad."
