There are so many games I would do speed runs of, not on purpose put out of muscle memory. It really is nice to have Retro Achievements to force me to play them more fully.

What I find utterly asinine is it seems like the even care less about profits than they do feeding their egos and following this shit model of operation. Building shit games, injecting all the dlc, microtransactions crap and then charging so much no on wants to buy more. I constantly overspend on GOG and the like because its easy to get me in the door. If I have to save up to buy a game I have a lot of time to talk myself out of it.

What are you doing on your work VPN that you care if the government illegally looked at? I work in an industry that legally requires security like a VPN and I don't care if the government broke the rules. It's above my paygrade.

You know the complex will be a missile silo to shoot a giant Big Boy out or some other crazy shit like that.

Exactly.

And when you start looking into his real estate development, the majority of them fall into two camps. Either he sold his name for the property and had absolutely no involvement in them because in the 80's and 90's Trump means "classy" OR he was the financial backer while others actually did the development and management of the properties. The vast majority of his failed properties were the ones he actually kept some sort of control over and since he doesn't pay his workers and wants to operate like a slum lord, all of those properties tended to fail.

If anything all he really did successfully was show how if you start out with a lot of money and have mildly competent people around you then you can make money.

I get that. But it is amazing when you see interviews of him back in the 90s and he very obviously couldn't run a business to save his life. It was always about scams and when called on it his brain would break.

The real question is, does he think he can run a legit business or is his only skill in stealing candy from the pockets of kids as they jump into life rafts of the ship he caused to sink?

The justification of the slippery slope is pretty simple.

They ask to add in a DoB field that must be filled out and reported at all times. So we add it into our systems and say no big deal. If you hate it put down your birthday as 1900-01-01 and call it a day.

But what is the problem with a self reported, unconfirmed field like this? It is utterly useless BECAUSE it is a self reported, unconfirmed field. It doesn't solve any problem AND it doesn't provide any real personal information. So why even ask for it?

The two options are malicious intent and stupidity that tech can't be worked around.

We can skip the latter as stupid people will always be stupid. So the former, malicious intent. When they point out that this new law isn't actually fixing things because of the fact people are lying about their age they will inevitably say we need government IDs added to the system. They will not only make sure you are the correct age for content, but know WHO is viewing such content and they will be tracking it.

Now you might say, wait there is a third option, benevolent people actually wanting safety. Creating a system where personal information is mandatory to your interaction with the internet creates a security target that we all know cannot be covered. And we also know that all tech can be broken so kids will find a way around this stuff. Using your parent's ID, a globally shared fake ID, hacking the protocol for certification. they will get around it.

The slope is slippery because the only options are

  • Stupid => which falls down the hill on accident
  • Benevolent => which falls down the hill because its a vertical cliff face that can't be scaled
  • Malicious => they push you down the hill because they are assholes

We've now hit the point in the timeline where these morons thought maybe if we change the name back no one will think it was us.

"What? No, we are the Department of DEFENSE. That whole thing going on in the Middle East was caused by the Department of War. That's not us."
