Moin!

But it’s five euros (!!) to test it for a month?! Do you know how much it costs to run a project like this? As far as I know, there’s no massive funding behind this one and it’s an extremely small team (compared to Kagi/DDG…), so offering a free trial might just not be feasible for them.

I’m not affiliated with the project / the Devs at all, but I really think 5€/month is close enough to a free trial…

from the FAQ:

you can get a refund in the first 14 days

Danke!

Danke dir!

It’s weird.

I have quite a bit of experience under my belt, but I’ve never studied anything in the SysAdmin field; so now they asked me to do the certificate in the first month of my new job so I have something on paper that says that I have experience.

Even my immediate supervisor thinks it’s stupid, but the higher-ups wanted it that way.

Thanks!

I found those resources as well, but the (English language) video courses for LPIC-1 are rare and/or quite old (which reflects in the ratings); I think just learn better with videos, which is why I was asking for video courses.

Thanks again :)

Thanks, I know about about the PDFs which is why I was asking about videos specifically as I think I study better with videos.

The problem is - as has been stated in this thread - that real world knowledge is only a part of these tests; even as someone whose a SysAdmin might have to study for those tests and „brushing up“ might not be enough.

Thanks again :)

Hi :)

I need the LPIC-1 certificate for a new job and I’m looking for resources to study for it.

I’m not a sysadmin nor did I ever study anything in that field, but I work with Linux daily and have all my projects at home running on Linux. In total, I’ve been using unix-based systems for more than 20 years.

Still, I’d like to make sure I’m getting through the tests the first time. Can you recommend any video courses? (I think video is easiest for me) Other tips for different resources are appreciated as well :)

Thanks!

Years ago I tried Bertrand. It’s okay, I guess? But more expensive since they claim to be „organic“.

Afaik they’re from Germany.

Thanks for sharing this! The fact that this can run on the Steam Deck makes me happy :D Hope I find the time to set this up over the weekend.

Then you’ve probably never really thought about what pedophilia actually means. My partner works with pedophiles in a clinical setting and there’s way more people with pedophile tendencies than you’d think (or at least than I thought). Most of them realise it’s a problem early on and seek help, some live in shame for most of their lives and only a tiny percentage actually does something to kids. Obviously, this shouldn’t happen at all (!!) but saying „all pedophiles should be removed from society“ is no solution to anything. Just to be sure: I have no idea what the ladybird-guy said about this topic, nor do I know who he is (or even what Ladybird is. I now know it’s a Browser, but that’s it).

Ist leider schon länger offline; in irgendeinem Forum schrieb der Betreiber auch, dass es rechtliche Probleme gäbe.

Hey!

TL;DR: "Newer CPUs -> more power -> more fan noise?" Or does it make sense to buy newest generation CPUs if I really care about quiet fans?

As an Apple user for over a decade I also haven't really looked at hardware for years so I hope this is not a dumb question.

I'm looking at laptops (preferably AMD, I guess?) right now, and I'm wondering if the extra price for this years hardware (for example the Ryzen AI CPUs or Intels Lunar Lake) is worth it, when my main "want" is quiet fans?

I mean, of course I care about battery and actual processing power, but as I use my laptop for work and private stuff, the fan noise is more important to me than the other two.

Reason: I work with patients in a very quiet environment, so it's annoying when the notebook's fans get extremely loud and then quiet again at irregular intervals.

I know nothing will ever be as quiet as my M1 Macbook Air, but I'm not expecting that.

In my work use, I'm mostly typing. Sometime I might be showing my patients a video or use the notebook to record certain exercises, so I don't think that's heavy use.

My private use is mostly Browser, Streaming, text processing. (I try to stick to the Steam Deck when it comes to gaming)

If you do have a laptop recommendation I'm happy to hear it, of course, but I'm probably going to stick to the tried and tested Dell / HP / Thinkpad recommendations that you see on every Reddit thread. (I sadly had a not-so-good experience with Tuxedo, although I would have loved to support a company like that.)

Thanks!

Liegts an mir?
