@PugJesus @festnt A round is 6 seconds. An extraordinary fighter can physically attack three times in 6 seconds. There's even a scene in the last DnD film where a character kills (almost realistically) a handful of guards in exactly 6 seconds.

@Libb @typewriters Thanks! Here, on Le Bon Coin at least, the prices are generally between 20€ and 80€, with exceptions of course (like a Brother CE-25 sold 625€ or an extremely rusted and unsalvageable Triumph sold 175€, and the price was lowered recently…). I have a notification when a new machine appears around me, and since the Spring it's the third time someone gave a machine (I seized two of those three opportunities). I also have an eye in Germany, as I live near the border, but I see less things and of course most of them have QWERTZ keyboards.

I repaired my first machine

I'm quite proud of myself. Yesterday I picked up a #typewriter that someone was giving away because it wasn't working anymore… and after a little over an hour of working on it, it types again! It's still very dirty, and there are some bars to straighten and other minor adjustments to make, but it works. I've cleaned and adjusted working machines before, but this is the first time I've brought a typewriter “back to life,” and it's really enjoyable.

Actually, the repair was simple; an experienced amateur could have done it in a few minutes, but I learned a lot about ribbon vibrators along the way.

It's (in my opinion) a #Japy P68 (also known by its Swiss name, Patria), sold under license from #Manufrance Typo. If it is indeed originally a P68, then according to the wonderful website https://typewriterdatabase.com/ and its serial number, it dates from 1953.

My only concern is the keyboard; the plastic keycaps are in very poor condition and hurt my fingers when I use them. Otherwise, it's a beautiful little machine, without any extras (there aren't even tabs), very responsive, and it takes almost as much force to type as on a PC keyboard, which is to say, really not much at all!

In the wooden case, whose handle was ingeniously repaired by the previous owner, I found two packs of carbon paper, which alone are worth the trip, and surprisingly, the ribbon is still very moist, almost new.

@papertowels @rpgmemes As a SJ Cleric, I have to say “no”. As Thomas Aquinas said:

> It is lawful for a man to succor his own need by means of another's property, by taking it either openly or secretly: nor is this properly speaking theft or robbery (SumTh, IIa-IIae, q.66, art.7, resp.)

Taking things for other people who actually need it is not theft, thus you were not a thief.

@rpgmemes the truth is probably that I'm a social justice commoner with an acolyte background

I'm a social justice cleric IRL

(But I'm still waiting for my spellcasting ability. Any time now.)

I'm not sure the Contessa is an actual ultra-portable. It's plastic, yes, and the bottom of the machine is also the bottom of the suitcase. But it's quite big and heavy for an ultraportable!

@quediuspayu @typewriters Thanks for sharing this! I'd love to be able to clean that deeply. I don't have a lot of tools, even not an air compressor… I used a bottle of compressed air, emptied it completely and there's still dust.

Which oil do you use, and where?

@Libb That's why I said “actually repaired”; the first one I tried to repair is still unusable 😅. I had to give it to a seasoned collector who proposed to repair it for me.

And yes, I'm French too 🙂.

A productive evening

My Adler Contessa de Luxe now works! It has a lovely font. I cleaned it, changed (respooled) the ribbon, and made a few little adjustments. It still has two problems: one of the sticky keys is still sticky (the others aren't anymore), and the bell doesn't work most of the time. But I'm happy, it's the first machine I actually repaired.

For the #InternationalTypewriterDay, I just bought on eBay my second typewriter

It's an Olympia Dactylette S… and it doesn't look like a good #typewriter. But it seems to work, and I had it for 6,50€, so it's worth a shot (and it has a beautiful colour!). If it works, even badly, I'll be able to type again, as my “daily driver” is still at the repairer, and I'll be happy.

And who knows, maybe it'll be a good surprise?

@zloubida I'm quite sad there's no #TypeIn in my country. Maybe when I'll know more about them (and people with more #typewriters than me) I'll organize one!
