If all packaged food disappeared right now, I could gather from my garden:

6 small zucchinis, 20 pea pods (end of season, I got about 3 cups shelled peas from 10 plants this spring), 5 hard green tomatoes, a bunch of dill, like 30 green beans, a tiny bit of cilantro, like ten pounds of potatoes, 10 radishes, maybe 5 carrots, garlic, and onion. Check back in a month for tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers, and cucumbers/melons

Gonna try to grow peanuts soon. Really want to find some low effort, high yield, high calorie crops similar to potato

Nice to see conservatives were able to rebrand the "conservatives have over-active amygdala and are scared of everything for no reason" articles

The neocons that got bush to go for Iraq can't believe that Trump says yes to every pitch. They're getting everything they've spent 30 years working for. Next the US will be annexing Czechoslovakia

Last year was my first year gardening. It's January, so it's all hazy memories now, but I remember looking forward to coming home from work every day so I could check on now my vegetables were growing and I could take a few minutes and escape life. For 99.9% of human history, 99.9% of humans engaged with growing and caring for plants every day (in one way or another), and it feels good to get some of that back

Unrelated but Davos is next week

I can vouch for this one. Went from near-daily ~3 drinks to maybe 3 drinks a week, if that. Never even want a drink; have to convince myself to have one, and even then, I don't usually finish it. I credit cannabis (partial credit to a psilocybin experience) for killing my alcohol habit

Disclaimer: I haven't done any research up to this point.

I've always liked learning Spanish but have never felt fluent or even conversational, just directive or able to recite practiced phrases. I took two years in high school, two years in college, and worked in a Latino-plurality community for a decade, so I have a grasp and appreciation for the language, but would like to be better at it.

I tried Duolingo ~10 years ago and thought it was just ok not great.

I tried Rosetta Stone maybe 5 years before that and didn't like it at all.

I'm going to look into taking adult ed classes at the local cc; and I know in person is the best way to learn, but schedules are hard and phones are easy

What's worked for you?

Love too see icons of revolution being coopted by forces of reaction because they aren't explicit in their call for revolution but instead represent an ill-defined concept of rebellion and liberation

Patriotic Historians really been working damage control for ol Mr Dec of Ind. You'd think the all men created equal guy wouldn't own more slaves than there are active NBA players, but you'd be wrong

Glad i scrubbed my reddit account in 2020

I picked up a box of "shicken" tikka kebab at the Costco. Fully vegan and ready for the grill straight out of the box. They were delicious. A huge hit and a group of 6 ate the whole box. I've tried a lot of fake meats and do/don't like many for all sorts of reasons, but these were good overall, no complaints at all. Highly recommended if you come across them and think they're up your alley. This is not product placement I just wanted to share a positive experience and give an endorsement so someone else can enjoy them
