Licking their would be oppressors boot isn't working out for them? I bet they thought that they were one of the good Muslims and would get an exemption from the discrimination as a result.

I am not sure that rational choices by EV drivers can be generalized to the population as a whole. Consider the "roll coal" tinky winkies.

Hey, Don, why are they regularly testing you for dementia? They didn't need to test those other guys.

Is it justified to torture his kid in front of him to get him to talk?

If you believe climate change is going to cause mass starvation, the surest way to avoid having a child not suffer is to not have the child in the first place. Do I want to raise a wage slave? Someone who cannot afford a house of his/her own? We're past peak oil so many aspects of life are going to get more expensive and worse. The lack of children seems pretty rational at the individual level. Why subject them to an increasingly unpleasant life?

Try to address any medical issues as best as possible now.

You wouldn't even have to make a huge reform to make a big difference. If we changed using "unrealized gains" as collateral to count as realizing those gains, the ultra wealthy would pay a fuck ton more in taxes. Also, the interest on those loans should not be deductible. Boo hoo if you end up with a margin call. Don't make risky bets.

Adam Curtis's Hypernormalisation. It is a documentary and does a painful job of examining reality. I was vaguely unsettled before seeing it and after seeing it I have a specific vocabulary and lens through which I perceive current events. I feel helpless to this day. Free on YouTube:

I remembered you want non documentaries, so I will add Basketball Diaries. DiCaprio film about a talented young basketball player ruining his life through drug addiction.

Hansen and team's research finds climate sensitivity is at least 4.5C for a doubling of CO2 with 99% certainty. Too bad COPS is using 3.0 like it is gospel. For some perspective, the CO2 baseline is around 285, and we're up to 425 (we're only 145 away from doubling and that's ignoring increases in fun things like methane and nitrous oxide). The amount to get to the doubled value is roughly the increase we have experienced in my lifetime, so it is not as far away as it might seem.

I guess I should invest in air conditioned farming.
