You've got that backwards. US consumes the heavy stuff because it is cheap and they have the ability to refine it. They sell the light stuff to places that do not have the refining capacity to refine the heavy stuff.

We had this for what feels like a long time. No one seems to remember and looks at me like I was taking crazy pills when I talk about it.

I am in my 40s, Wall-e is probably my favorite movie, but that may speak more towards me getting some sort of validation from my neurodivergence assigning personalities and human-like emotions to inanimate objects.
