There’s a popular community on Lemmy called BuyEuropean, but Europe’s voting record at the UN seems just as problematic as that of the US and Israel. This makes me question whether boycotting European products in favor of Chinese ones might be more ethical, even though there isn’t a dedicated community for that.

The best alternative I can think of is using AliExpress instead of Amazon. Does anyone know where to find alternatives to products made in China?

Many times I've asked Perplexity to use ProleWiki as a source to answer me and it just refuses saying it's state run or whatever but it never tells me other sites are oligarchy run when it comes to western sources.

Why? Nevermind, new account. Probably trolling.

Social media platforms like TikTok have shown us the power of algorithms in shaping public discourse. Their creators developed a system designed to keep users engaged, maximizing time spent on the platform. While TikTok presented a significant challenge to traditional capitalist structures, we saw how quickly those at the top moved to coerce its owners into submission. The sale was a clear warning: platforms that challenge the status quo are not welcome.

This isn't the case with alternatives like Lemmy or Mastodon. While they have noble intentions, they lack the clout to sway public opinion significantly. If we want to effectively combat capitalism, we must create a social media platform that competes directly with the giants. A platform that maintains user engagement like the existing ones but intentionally shifts the narrative towards leftist ideologies.

Imagine an algorithm that not only maximizes time spent online but skillfully guides users toward progressive ideas. Traditional platforms often funnel users into echo chambers, amplifying conservative viewpoints by leading them down a rabbit hole without them even realizing it. This kind of manipulation is reshaping perspectives every day, and we can’t ignore its impact.

To truly fight capitalism, we need to leverage similar tactics. We should harness the potential of algorithms to promote leftist values, empowering users to question the existing capitalist framework. By constructing a platform that encourages critical thinking, solidarity, and progressive change, we can redefine the narrative and foster a movement that resonates with a broader audience.

We must not shy away from the methods that currently dominate social media. Instead, let’s use them to our advantage. The future of resistance lies not just in alternative platforms, but in harnessing the power of algorithms to cultivate a new generation of leftists ready to challenge the system.

z-lib seems to have highlighted a leftist collection as an Editor's Choice. I don't know if this is something tailored for me or is everyone seeing it.

  • Academic non-fiction
  • No popular history unless it's been reviewed in an academic journal.
  • Updated regularly!

This topic is very broad compared to my other lists. There's no specific region or time period (although as usual, books on England/the U.S are overrepresented.) Some of my personal interests:

  • Mining

  • Strikes, lock-outs, labour disputes of all kinds.

  • Unions and labour laws

  • Development of various leftist ideologies/movements

  • Intersections of class, race, gender, and sexuality.

  • Relationship between labour and environmental destruction, esp. in…

I've read the Communist Manifesto and found myself agreeing with the ideas presented. However, I'm left wondering: what's the real point of studying Marxism-Leninism more deeply? It feels like the principles are clear, and it's unlikely that a deeper understanding of them will lead to significant change.

It seems to me that content creators, like those from podcasts like Deprogram, have a more direct influence on people's perspectives today. So, I'm curious, why should we invest time in studying these ideologies when there are more immediate ways to engage with and affect the world? What benefits can understanding Marxism-Leninism actually provide in today's context?

Imagine a friend who’s broke asking to borrow money just so they can buy a round for strangers at a bar to look important. You’d probably cut ties, right? That’s kind of what the US does when it borrows billions to fund wars around the world, just print money it doesn't have so it can feel important, devaluing their coin and making the young go six figures into debt just for going to college.

The wildest part is I realized this while watching a heated debate between Josh Hammer and Dave Smith about Israel, two MAGA. I discovered this video because it's the most likely reason mossad killed Charlie Kirk according to a video from Ian Carroll.
