My friend and I got an old optiplex and upgraded it with a burner so we can make CDs. It's actually quite nice to have a physical medium for music in the car, and make mixes for different moods that you can switch between. We also know some people with older cars that only have CD and radio or the Bluetooth sucks so we'll make CDs for them too. Tons of fun and you can buy a usb CD / DVD burner for like $10 or $15 and CD-Rs are fairly cheap.

Fourthed and fifthed since we're doing two now I guess.

Anything helps, totally acceptable. My network is shared with others, I limit my speed up and down to make sure I don't slow it down for everyone.

[–] HumanPerson@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

Nah, that wouldn't. But if you connected just the hot line (right eye of the outlet smiley face) that would do it. Wouldn't recommend it because you could kill them by electrocution or kill even more people with a fire.

I only enable duress password when I may need it. With my luck I'll wipe my phone putting it in my pocket.

I used to but then I switched out the server I was doing backups to and have been thinking "I'll get to it later" for many months. If anything goes wrong I'm screwed. I'll get to it later ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I prefer grapheneos's numeric pin+fingerprint or alphanumeric password. Plus I get to brag that I have MFA on my phone login (even if you can use only the password).

I run everything but vp8 on. Can't guarantee you won't have issues depending on drivers and specific media files but this is what I use with the same GPU. Also I'm familiar with some other intel weirdness on jellyfin + Linux if you use Linux and run into additional problems.

Some people who use my Jellyfin server have access through Roku. The Roku client doesn't use the user language preferences and has been slow to gain Jellyfin features. They would like to replace it with something that can access Jellyfin and conventional streaming services. What do you recommend? FOSS is preferred but not required. Same for raspberry pi options.

I need brake upgrades for a 2012 Honda pilot. The local twisty road is quite hilly and I can be hard enough on the brakes to get fade from the OE brakes. They seem to have shit themselves after a recent drive. I asked for pad recommendations and was told Hawk Performance, EBC Bluestuff, Porterfield r4-s, or akebono euro are good options. I was unable to find those for my car. If any internet stranger could find some in a size that fits, that would be awesome, but I would also be open to other suggestions. I also would like fluid and rotor recommendations. I don't want drilled rotors, would consider slotted. I'm hoping to not dump tons of cash on this, as I'm trying to save for a better car as the long term plan. Thanks in advance!

Theoretically it could also be them posting a copied screenshot taken by the person who originally wrote this but that seems unlikely. They probably did just post this themself.

Basically title. I want an app that can integrate with a server to run whisper and small local llms to place phone calls and such. Already have ollama and such, so that side is done. I just need the integration.

Edit for clarity: I mean a local siri type thing.

Radar detector questions (sh.itjust.works)

I'm deciding between the Uniden r3 and r7. I would prefer to spend less, but arrows seem like a nice feature to have. Also, I want to get the factory refurbished ones from Uniden's website and would like to know if that's a good idea. Also, for those who have been caught speeding with a radar detector, are cops less likely to go easy on you if you have one?

Edit: for those wondering I ordered a recertified r7.

I just set up a new dedicated AI server that is quite fast by my standards. I have it running with OpenWebUI and would like to integrate it with other services. I think it would be cool to have something like copilot where I can be writing code in a text editor and have it add a readme function or something like that. I have also used some RAG stuff and like it, but I think it would be cool to have a RAG that can access live data, like having the most up to date docker compose file and nginx configs for when I ask it about server stuff. So, what are you integrating your AI stuff with, and how can I get started?

Hello. I am looking for a budget all rounder tire in a 235 60 r18. Something under $160 would be good. I'm currently looking at the Goodyear Assurance Finesse but would be open to suggestions. Thanks in advance.

So don't take this the wrong way, but I do like cars. I am also against car dependency. I just wanted to make this post here to start a discussion about the benefits of lower speed limits in cities and towns, investment in effective public transit and non car-centric infrastructure, and other "anti-car" policies for car people. My goal with this post is to list the benefits of these policies for car people as I see it, and to hear other opinions on this topic.

  1. Stroads suck. I am a car person and would rather bike on a well-designed street than drive on a stroad.
  2. Congestion - I like to drive. Most people I know would rather not and would take other forms of transit if there were viable alternatives. If people who just want to go from a to b had viable alternatives, roads would be free for the people who want or need to be in cars.
  3. Safety - I don't want to kill pedestrians. I don't want to wreck my car. I'm fine with driving fast on a country road where I can see for miles and know that there is nothing in front of me to hit. If I do crash, it was my fault, and it doesn't endanger others. However, cities should have lower speed limits to keep pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers safe.
  4. Traffic flow - Where I live, there is a 45 mph speed limit down one of the main roads, but I rarely reach 45 during peak usage times because of traffic. Lower speeds would make traffic flow more manageable and allow car traffic through at a higher average speed.

I feel like the name "Fuck Cars" presents a false dichotomy between well thought out urban design and cars. Good urban design opposes car dependency (which I am against) not cars themselves. With that, I would like to leave you with a few questions: What role should cars play in an ideal world? How would or do you talk to car enthusiasts about this stuff? Do you hate cars or car dependency?

Also because this is fuck cars, fuck some cars. Fuck cars with shitty modified exhausts in built up areas. Fuck cars that run catless exhausts. Fuck big ass trucks and SUVs that run over children to dodge environmental regulations. Especially fuck squatted trucks. Fuck the car manufacturers who lobby to create car dependency and manufacture the child-crushing SUVs.

I took a practice test (math) and would like to have it be graded by a LLM since I can't find the key online. I have 20GB VRAM, but I'm on intel Arc so I can't do gemma3. I would prefer models from ollama.com 'cause I'm not deep enough down the rabbit hole to try huggingface stuff yet and don't have time to right now.

Basically title, but I can provide some information.

I'm looking to spend no more than $300 or so. I'm not well versed in different filaments (I'll be honest, I know nothing) or really anything about 3d printing, but I want to be able to print cup holders for someone I know whose vehicle has none, I imagine heat resistance and strength would be important there. I also do robotics now and would like to be able to make my own small robot chassis and parts. I'm also a Linux user and like FOSS, which I believe is fairly compatible with 3d printing, so I would like to find a printer that doesn't make me use proprietary software and that I can use with Fedora Linux without too much hassle. I know I'm new to this, and I know I'm in other hobbies where people post things like: "I want to spend no more than 6 dollars to get artificial superintelligence running on an Arduino Nano," so I hope this isn't that, and sorry if it is. Thanks in advance.

I know audio fingerprinting intro skippers have existed now for a while. I just heard about media segments being introduced. Is there any project that combines the two to make an intro skipper that (eventually, ik segments aren't supported on most clients yet) work on other clients?

Never buy .xyz (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by HumanPerson@sh.itjust.works to c/selfhosted@lemmy.world

I just wanted to post this here because I want to help you all and hurt gen.xyz as much as possible. I had a .xyz domain through njal.la which I used to host jellyfin, homeassistant, and other basic things for friends and family. My domain recently became inaccessible without any notice. After a while of troubleshooting, I found that it had been reported to xyz as abuse, and they must have done zero investigation whatsoever before serverholding my domain. I thought about opening a ticket with xyz to get my domain back, but realized that I no longer wish to buy from some shitty company that will take down any site without warning. Bought a .com domain since they are somewhat reputable, and I would advise everyone here to never buy a .xyz domain. Angry rant over.
