I just access it via the Firefox browser. Mostly because I'm tired of everything wanting to have its own app which turns out to just be a more colourful container to load the webpage (my tinfoil hat hypothesis is that they do it to bypass adblocks). And the other reason is that I couldn't find anything I need to do on Lemmy that I'm not just as able to do from the browser.

I can bring in friends who used to work on this architectural project called "The Death Star"

Yes, although I would prefer to update the phrase to "My boss makes ten dollars, I make a dime..." to more accurately reflect today's reality.

I believe you meant to say:

Let's double-click on this; it feels more like a parallel trajectory than a direct-impact lever.

The difference is that we're way past being able to say "it's just a political difference, we can still be friends" A neglectable political difference would be not agreeing on whether tax money should be spent on repairing neglected rural roads or upgrading public transit. Or whether you want a military draft or not. Or what food safety standards should be pursued. If you're supporting MAGA, it means you either believe that certain groups of people do not deserve human rights and can be kidnapped/killed on a whim or you don't care that your party is doing that. It doesnt matter that we both love Star Wars and the same video games and can talk about them for hours, if you think that people who are important to me should vanish.

Those are the same words (but different language) I introe'd the long call with to tell my father that I'll go low-low contact with him. I gave him my saved YT politics playlist so he can watch it to see a lot of how I came to my conclusions (it's about 650 vids consisting of shorts, essays and anything in between) and give counter-evidence if he has any, but other than that I only want to be called in an emergency.

Thanks for correcting me. I was almost certain that I read something a while ago about the new Selbstbestimmungsgesetz but couldn't remember if I had just imagined it. Yay, Germany. We're making progress. It might be very slow and the AfD is growing at a worrying pace but at least, for the moment, we're still progressing (unless our politicians are bribed by the automobile industry again)

You can tell ~~your friend~~ yourself that it is actually much rarer in the EU to have non-binary options for official documents than I thought. And those that do only have it for citizens or permanent residents. In Germany, for example, you have the option to put Diverse on your ID and other national official documents, but only if you have a medical certificate that confirms yourself as being intersex. So transgender people or other non-binaries are not included and do not have this option.

Good point I haven't thought about. I have a Fairphone 4 and that is pretty much on the brink of what's still okay/comfortable to use one-handed. (I also looked up the FP6 dimensions, dreading the size increase, but I just found that it's actually slightly smaller than my current phone, yay)

I want to believe it's that others have the same problem as me that holding the phone to their ear+cheek makes that face-part real moist after a minute or two. And I choose to believe the speakerphone-speakers just never realised they could slightly tilt/lift the phone away from their skin and still hear perfectly fine.

But I fear that @its_me_xiphos@beehaw.org might be correct on this topic and it's simply a case of media/influencers portraying phone conversations that way for better filmability.

I just finished the article and yeah, it's pretty embarrassing for Palantir

Wow, what objects have you carried around in that inventory slot?

Update: My wife can make her eyeballs shake, too, and it's freaky

I was originally made aware of this article by a 404 Media newsletter. It's pretty interesting, largely confirms what has already been known so far, but also gives some fresh knowledge, like how nutrients from insects might not be quite as available, even if they technically have a very similar macronutrient profile to meats. That's because the present chitin reduces the bioavailability to a certain degree.

CONCLUSION Edible insects represent a promising complementary protein source capable of contributing to the growing global demand for sustainable and nutritionally adequate foods. They provide high-quality protein and relevant amounts of macronutrients and micronutrients, often comparable to or exceeding those of conventional animal-derived foods, while offering clear environ- mental advantages. Nevertheless, their integration into human diets requires a cautious and evidence-based approach. Current limitations include substantial variability related to insect species, developmental stage, rearing substrate and processing methods, as well as methodological heterogeneity in the assessment of pro- tein content, digestibility and bioavailability. Inconsistencies in analytical approaches, particularly regarding digestibility proto- cols and the handling of chitin-derived nitrogen, hamper compa- rability across studies and may bias protein-quality indices such as PDCAAS and DIAAS. Moreover, most evidence supporting biological activities (e.g., antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cyto- toxic effects) is derived from in vitro and animal models, while human data remain limited to small, short-term studies and are insufficient to substantiate health or clinical claims. Food safety concerns, including allergenic cross-reactivity, microbial contami- nation and chemical residues, together with regulatory heteroge- neity and persistent barriers to consumer acceptance, further constrain large-scale application. To support responsible uptake, regulatory authorities and industry stakeholders should prioritize the harmonization of guidelines for rearing substrates, hygienic production, analytical methods and labeling, including clear allergen disclosure. The implementation of robust quality- management systems (good manufacturing practices (GMPs)/ HACCPs), validated processing protocols and transparent com- munication regarding origin, processing and safety is essential to build consumer trust and enable the sustainable incorporation of insect-based ingredients into food systems.
