Terry Brooks, Shannara series (wiki/goodreads)

It's a rather extensive fantasy series and covers a prolific amount of time instead of focusing on a few characters and events (over 40 books and thousands of years basically).

ok I would never use one and think it's a horrible addition to the world (unless economic stability was achieved for the average citizen and a form of UBI was implemented with all social safety nets securely codified into laws), but...

if something delivering my food showed up covered in broken glass and was all banged up I would have to wonder what apocalyptic-style pixar movie did this little one have to go through to humbly get my food to me. I would take it in and clean it up before I set it on it's way again out into the wild.

I will say I found plenty of pics of him seeming to enjoy himself when looking for the past ones I saw. The best one is probably this one

ironically it's from a video about how they're returning home though lol

couldn't fit them all in the top comment

Every single shot or thumbnail I see of Victor Glover just looks like he's tired of this shit and everything he's putting up with.

I'm guilty of this when using a web browser, I'll scroll down a page and open relevant posts into new tabs until I've accrued several. Sometimes I don't get to them for quite a while so if I upvote it's surprising how high the number jumps until I realize it's sat there for half a day.

I try to refresh when commenting because 9/10 times someone else has already commented the same thing since the internet is dead but sometimes I forget.

should be a huge impact

I see what you did there.

Actually that makes sense, the messier it is the more he can claim that cheating was involved. Interesting how the ICE playbook got it's big kickoff in California and now we have a sheriff seizing voter ballets there as well.

California sheriff running for governor seizes more than a half million ballots from 2025 election

I kinda like doing that opposite of that. Using sir or ma'am for my kids always gives me a proper warm heart but I don't make them use it in any context. For me the usage of sir/ma'am is reserved to show respect and deep fondness for someone (1 or 2 people total, not an "elder" thing). Kinda like some people loosely use uncle or grandma for someone that's not even related but they're still special to them.

lol at quoting the entire comment of what you're replying to multiple times. I feel like you're just making their point more valid by saying it for them.

I guarantee you he has tried to nuke Iran multiple times already. The brass keeps turning him down (which is why Hogsack has such freewill to fuck up the military command structure) and his handlers don't want the bad PR of trying to nuke. Not that his base would mind, but even being denied to nuke would make him look weak and some people might cross the aisle at that point.

manga without the art.... like a book?

T-4hrs from time of post

I've been browsing through the throng of generated sites and adware trying to find something that's simple and easy to track and manipulate. Honestly something as simple as the rimworld schedule would work (I've been tempted to boot it up but I can't add notations or change category fields).

Found some things that are similar but very crude and usually in a horrible format. I'm also weary of a lot wanting me to sign up for a "free" version or downloading sketchy software. I suppose there are excel versions but that's more manual entry and was looking for something with sliders I can control and expand to cover time slots. Something a couple of people will use and can easily change around to show their preference.

edit: some examples but not exactly what I'm looking for (looking for just a day, something less excel looking for ease of visual understanding) (the boxes are great but feel like the horizontal style is easier and being able to slide the boxes or make the sizes different)

I browse different lemmy instances usually because the feed is always different. Was blown away when I recently went to lemmy.today, no clue when they did the change but whoever is in charge of the design has my admiration! (chef's kiss)

This is one of those videos that I didn't want to watch but felt it was important to see. If you know anyone who's on the fence, this might be the one to make them see what the system has the ability to do to an individual.

This wasn't about politics, personal beliefs, or any type of -ism's. This was murder and torture because they COULD. The smiles and comradery between the perpetrators is a clear insight on how our systems of authority attract and create the most inhumane psychopaths that live among us everyday.

I'm happy to see the civil rights lawyer in the sidebar already and I can't imagine the type of burden he carries with having to watch the raw footage and edit all these videos to present to us.

I'm not sure what is going on, but it feels like everyone that I've followed or enjoyed watching now has huge leanings/kickbacks from companies they seem to be promoting on their platforms. Specifically space news recently has really shown the bias with everyone foaming at the mouth about how brilliant SpaceX is when they decide to pivot to the moon instead of mars or adding safety measures like water to a launchpad which has been done for decades.

I think my breaking point was a recent video of someone walking around, what seemed to be a campus, explaining the server/hosting logistics and technical aspects but then pivoted into how great it was when everything they were saying seemed to be a negative. Followed all the relevant links to the person and of course they work for google, so it's some kinda "non-mainstream advertising" in the guise of actual knowledge.

I think the only two individuals I watch anymore are Anton and Fran. Hell, some of Neil Degrasse Tyson's shit has been interesting me just because of my lack of content and I'm unfortunately someone who just can't stand the guy (but I'll admit I've seen some videos lately and he's made good points while calling out bad actors in question).

Trying to max out a pc I inherited to give to another family member but having problems trying to confirm what memory I should purchase and trying to work my way through it but just need some clarifications or maybe I'm missing something. (trying to make this purchase and "finish" this pc to it's max capabilities before prices start to spike)

The pc in question is the HP 280 G3 Microtower. Originally I got the tag FX-ISL-4 off of the MoBo but couldn't find specs so with CPU-X it pulled up a HP 8350 (1) MoBo that I could get specs from (am I missing the 8350 on the board or is cpu-x style programs the only way to get the info?). H110 intel chipset LPC/eSPI controller.

Has an Intel Core i3-7100 (2) with integrated Intel Mesa HD Graphics 630.

Currently it's running 2 - 4GB ddr4-2400Mhz. This all started with trying to figure out the right CAS latency to get as a site listed different ones and I wanted to make sure the more-expensive/low-latency one would even be worth it or would be reduced and ineffective to get the better one. All of the sites also suggest a 32GB kit with 2 - 16GB ddr4-2400/2666/3200 (newegg, kingston, crucial) with the CAS Latency all over the place (I know it's a formula, gonna have to go back and refresh my mind on that I think).

When I ran into the Mobo datasheet (1) it states "Supports up to PC4-21300 (DDR4 2666), Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs" (making only 16gb total possible). The cpu (2) says ddr4 with "Rated Speed: 2400 MT/s" making all of the other ram recommendations overpowered.

I know from a previous Mac Book pro upgrade the manufacturer specified only 8gb but you could actually install 16gb with updates and changes. I can't find any documentation or articles but the memory sites are very adamant I can install 32GB worth on the HP and I'm very tempted to pull the trigger on that with the lowest CL I can find.

Any suggestions or steps I'm doing wrong? Really want to be confident with identifying my parts, understanding the specs and interactions, and being able to be confident that the parts are compatible. I have a bunch of others I've been staring at to work on similarly but I always hesitate, helps when it's not going to be your computer to actually do the thing.

For instance, a foot...is basically a foot length. So there's this foot-measuring waddle some people do walking literally heel-to-toe to get a general sense of the space. An inch is kinda a finger width, etc (they're all not perfect by any sense).

I've decided to just take the plunge and basically re-learn all my measurement systems because I'm seeing less and less of those being used. I started with just memorizing all the conversions but that's literally just adding another step. Everything I own basically has settings to switch or show both measurements (like tape measures) so I'm just going to stop using Fahrenheit and the United states "Customary System" all together.

Any tips or things you're taught or pick up on? There's a funny primary school poem for conversion of customary liquid measurements,

Land of Gallon

Introducing capacity measurement to learners can be challenging. To make this topic more accessible and memorable, we can integrate creative and interactive activities into our teaching approach. Using storytelling, we can transform the sometimes daunting task of learning measurement conversions into a whimsical tale.

  • In the Land of Gallon, there were four giant Queens.
  • Each Queen had a Prince and a Princess.
  • Each Prince and Princess had two children.
  • The two children were twins, and they were eight years old.

Once students are familiar with the story be sure they see the connection between the story characters and the customary units of capacity measurement. If necessary, label the story pieces with their corresponding units of measure: queen = quart, prince/princess = pint, children = cups, 8 years old = 8 fluid ounces. You can reduce the number of customary units in the story based on student readiness. link

tl;dr looking for anything to remember the hierarchy and memorizing the metric and Celsius measurement system, sometimes explained in schooling or local sayings. (if I had an example for those systems I would give one lol).

edit: Don't purchase, JK Rowling doesn't deserve your money

edit: as @drspod@lemmy.ml said, J. K. Rowling is a fascist. Don't purchase, the loser doesn't deserve your money.

I've been seeing more often (and others have posted the same) that some of the elements of "Reddit etiquette" seem to be taking over here. Luckily I can still find discussion comments but it seems the jokes and general "downvote because I disagree" are slowly taking over.

So the question becomes is it the size or the functionality of the site? The people or popularity? What's your thoughts?

edit: should I change it to Lemmy-hivemind? Exhibit A: the amount of downvotes without a single explanation (guessing it's anything to do with Reddit being talked about).
