I get the people here saying "just don't have any of them". Recently I decided to wipe my IG account's likes that I left on all posts. You know - so the algorithm knows less about me. Mind you, this was several thousand likes to remove.

There is no bulk unliking option, so I did this by hand. Select the same -teen photos, unlike, wait for the reload, repeat. The benefit is that you get a look atwhat you liked, since you're combing through it by hand.

What struck me is 99% of those posts were from people I haven't ever met. They were rando short creators. There is nothing "social" about this medium anymore. It's a media medium.

Jealous you got the metal one. I bought the earlier plastic version. They're supposedly making a Echo Nano version too

ANNA CIEPLAK

Teraz book cluby zakładają gwiazdy pop i zwyciężczynie Wimbledonu, a do wzięcia udziału zaprasza ładna grafika na Instagramie i stories z ankietą.

I'm not Hungarian but I was at Batthany ter from 6PM to 2AM and experiencing history by yourself is much different than seeing it on TV. There was a group of high schoolers in front of me who were hugging among eachother constantly once they knew Tisza won, broke my heart.

When I was coming back, on the shuttle bus to Warsaw Chopin a Hungarian woman was watching a recap of the election night smiling, and when a bird's eye video of the crowd appeared she was shaking her head in disbelief/pride. Yes, I was watching her phone from above - standing - while she was sitting, shut up

With those kind of rosy-eyed stories in Poland we say "and then the bus driver sat up and started clapping" and indeed I may be on an emotional high compared to people who just saw the facts on TV, though I don't even feel a fraction of some Hungarians may be feeling.

Also I couldn't join in on any of the chants but the simplest "-ria, -ria, Hungaria" lol

Same boat. Got a 1kg bag to motivate myself to eat the more and it's going rather slow. Love the nutrients in those but I wish they just tasted better.

I love it when OP adds their own clarification in the square brackets to de-clickbait a title

Where does it say that anyone is boycotting anything? Perhaps you're looking at for !boycottus@lemmy.ca ?

People are also growing cotton in Italy now, so maybe one day we could have cotton that's not only spun in Europe but also grown there. Still, lyocell and flax/hemp would probably be easier.

More on luxaward.eu

Last year "Flow" won: https://lux-award.europarl.europa.eu/en/news/flow-wins-the-lux-audience-award-2025

The post contains the titles of the nominated movies and links to their trailers, where applicable.

Where to watch the nominated films?

The European Parliament organises free screenings in all European Union countries. For the 2026 edition, and for the first time, all five nominated films will be subtitled for the deaf and hard of hearing people in all 24 EU languages, making them more accessible. In addition, you can watch the film(s) by attending a commercial screening in a cinema near you.

The second part of the song sounds like something that could be in a Tony Hawk game

How very 2017

I was listening to a podcast about cultural imperialism and https://beehy.pe/ was mentioned - there's 100 people from around the world who hand-curate non-anglosphere music. This also means they're (I think) not sung in English

!technology@lemmy.world mod nuked my post because they only like articles or something

It's not exactly a "dumbphone" but it's a "not so smart smartphone"

All the other Lemmy videogame communities disallow humorposting but the rules here don't seem to mention it, so hopefully it's ok

If you're wondering how come they are so many people in one channel - they're actually all in separate channels, in their "squad"'s channel. But you can also bind a "shout" keybind in Mumble settings so your voice is transmitted to linked channels. In this case in the video you can see the "Command 1" channel and people can shout it from the regular line member channels.

I'm like any other European raised on the Internet:

  • my English accent is more American (guys is it hard to switch to a British one?)
  • learned English from American cartoons, games and websites
  • I know who the current and previous mayor of New York is for some reason
  • I know the American flavor of the month "thing"
  • Evening news from the national broadcaster regularly covers US news, or social media posts from prominent figures in the US (doesn't do this for any other country with such regularity)
  • I know the Oscars are happening from media yet completely missed Cesars

People here focus on tech a lot but I think it can't be understated how much of a cultural grasp the US has on Europe. Being born into it already being in full swing I didn't really question it. This Wikipedia article states most of the top 50 movies are decidedly American.

I started watching more sports channels to escape the news about US. I yearn for the day where I realize I've been living under the proverbial rock and thanks to which I avoided learning about the latest US flavor of the week news. I also read European Corresponded (funded by EU) to get more out of sight news from member states, but US still spills through.

I started unsubscribing or blocking communities which have too much US news. Even those that paint it in a negative light. I just don't want it to be there.

I started using the "favorite channels" feature on my TV to narrow the channel list to a curated European or my country focused channels. Stuff like niche channels from the national broadcaster (documentaries, science, history, culture) that cover my country mostly. There's some private channels that broadcast old movies and music from my country in there too. France24, Deutsche Welle, BBC (they love to cover US...). Especially the niche state channels make you think - "damn, my own culture - it's kinda cool!". I also started watching arte.tv more, there's even an app for my old Samsung Tizen OS TV. It's so refreshing to learn something local.

You can see that my "journey" is kinda funny as I even tried to figure out clothes: https://szmer.info/post/11927959/13610982

I also read the first chapter of "Special Relations: The Americanization of Britain?" by Howard Malchow and it seems promising. It marks the start of the Americanization with the launch of the first satellite (AT&T) which made broadcasting American content easier. I also should read a book about the "change of guard" as the global superpower between the UK and the USA, as I don't really know the details of how that panned out.

I probably sound like a .ml user. Anyway, I don't know where I was going with this thread. Just dumped my thoughts. I guess it's ironic that I'm writing this as an European, an Indian could write something very similar. Guess it's just our turn to get culturally "colonized"

I guess these Wojaks represent my feelings best:
