“By labelling the true Western narrative…” how can anyone seriously write stuff like this?

Trump expressed in words what all states with nuclear weapons express quietly every day that those weapons are deployed. Monstrous? Absolutely.

Exactly. NATO states are funding the development of weapons systems which are incompatible with the Geneva Conventions.

What’s the likelihood that Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano can tell effectively if someone is surrendering or is an innocent bystander?

Bundling socialists with the far-right under the “populists” banner is silly. I don’t know why far-right politicians do what they do. To understand a left perspective, I recommend this article https://www.jasonhickel.org/blog/2025/8/6/the-real-reason-the-west-is-warmongering-against-china

Shocking. Within our lifetime Germany could have a national government again which facilitates the commission of genocide. Like the current one and the last one.

Holding firm against IHRA antisemitism definition-creep is important. Ireland’s new media regulator is doing well. Fair play to them.

It’s capitalism. Both German export reliance and Chinese overcapacity stem from the fundamental capitalist crisis of overaccumulation and overproduction. If I had to pick a side, as a European, I would strongly hope the Chinese automakers beat the Germans.

To their credit, the Germans aren’t hiding what happens if they win: extended reliance on fossil fuels, protectionism, imperialist competition, etc

A couple thing:

  1. There was a potential peace deal in April 2022, just after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February. At that time, Ukraine and Russia appeared close to agreeing on a 10-point peace plan during talks in Istanbul, Turkey. Boris Johnson persuaded Zelenskyy to abandon the talks. It’s all documented. Johnson has a lot to answer for.

  2. It’s quite right that most of the DSA’s focus is on the impact of America’s actions in the world, not Russia’s.

  3. Unilateral US sanctions can cause some inconvenience to wealthy, powerful targets, but above all, they have been proven to cause widespread and often deadly harm to people who certainly don’t deserve it. See https://www.thelancet.com/journals/langlo/article/PIIS2214-109X(25)00189-5/fulltext

Their pamphlet calls for “the withdrawal of Russian troops through a settled ceasefire agreement” — a negotiated peace, basically. The (geopolitically not-naïve?) alternative is what exactly?

Ireland’s government website, gov.ie, has a quite comprehensive robots.txt file, which by excludes almost all crawlers associated with AI training from scraping the site. One missing however is Mistral.

Where “the international security situation” means US’s monopoly on violence??

The European Commission just got caught with what looks exactly like the sort of ill-conceived “high-risk AI system” that the AI Act was made to guard against.

The Commission’s robo recruitment tool could soon be deployed – despite unanswered questions about how it works and how candidates will be protected – threatening workers rights and making a mockery of the law.

"The initial attack vector for these scenarios uses a malicious document. The malicious document contains a JSON-formatted malicious prompt that triggers the attack when the document is included in Copilot’s context. The prompt can be rendered as white text on a white background and in a small font size to conceal it from the victim. Since Copilot for Word strips all text formatting like color and font size before passing the text into the underlying Large Language Model (LLM), this text remains fully readable to Copilot even though the victim cannot see it.”

This is so silly. I can’t believe it worked until very recently (and probably still works, except not exactly in this way).

Survivor, persecuted by elites,... etc., etc... as expected, France's highest court has cleared the way for Le Pen to run for president in 2027. The Paris Criminal Court ruling in 2025, which included a 5-years ban on standing for election, has been partly overturned.

Nothing to worry about: just German elites continuing where they left off 80 years ago. Carry on.

Do BBC editors think that their readers won’t notice the double-standard?

Google and OpenAI staff, many of them AI researchers, have signed an open letter saying they share Anthropic’s red lines. Privately OpenAI bosses agree.

Setting aside Big Tech and surveillance capitalism for a minute — I wonder if fediverse microblogging apps like Mastodon aren’t fairly antisocial and inclined to individualism, while apps like Lemmy are more community and artefact/stuff-to-share centric.

People are complex, societies infinitely more so, but software can nudge us this way or that way too.

I’d be interested to hear what others here think.
