Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I mean, I'm surprised our economy hasn't crumbled, so it's not technically untrue

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 41 points 10 months ago

It's being stretched like a rubber band. When it snaps, it will be spectacular.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 9 points 10 months ago

Enough of us still have morals. Dwindling, but enough.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

Give it time.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 60 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It definitely shattered my expectations, and they were low to begin with

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 24 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Yeah this isn't his best boast. After we saw the stock market tanking insanely I was shocked to see it resemble normal growth for a time. Wrecking the economy with moronic tariffs and then restoring it briefly by backing off isn't something you can brag about

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 18 points 10 months ago (1 children)

He hasnt even gotten to the truly moronic part of instituting actual tariffs yet. All the tanking that occurred previously was due to the threat of tariffs. Imagine how fucked the market and economy would be if every tariff he threatened actually came to fruition

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

That's what I was thinking too

[–] bobs_monkey@lemmy.zip 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah but if you can time the dips and rises, you can make shitton of money, which is exactly what his cronies are doing. Everytime fatass announces a tariff, the market reacts, and then soars when he backs off. It's pure market manipulation.

Trump says [...] Data says otherwise.

Sums up his whole life, no?

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

I’ve never seen someone fail so successfully.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 54 points 10 months ago

Data shows that the Epstein list still hasn’t been released.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 30 points 10 months ago

I mean. It did. Just not in a positive direction. I was expecting their economic and fiscal policies to have catastrophic implications, but even I’m impressed by how jaw-droppingly idiotic they’re being, and how quickly everything is starting to come unraveled.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 10 months ago

This guy rapes children.

[–] Botzo@lemmy.world 24 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Fake it til you make it, amiright?

We need a new term for this level of willful ignorance.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 20 points 10 months ago

We need a new term for this level of willful ignorance.

Here are a few: "Unfitness for office." "Criminal incompetence." "Deliberate economic sabotage." "Dictatorship of the scum of the earth." "Kakistocracy."

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 8 points 10 months ago (2 children)

You can negatively "shatter expectations"

[–] RadicalRebel@sh.itjust.works 7 points 10 months ago

Trump fell into his current position of power simply because of his ability to effortlessly frame the fall of the US Empire as putting America first. While in reality, it's all just a distraction to cover for billionaires hoarding more and more wealth while the rest of us continue to struggle more and more.

[–] meyotch@slrpnk.net 4 points 10 months ago

We usually use the word “disappointing” but a competent writer can put a positive spin on anything.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 24 points 10 months ago

The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 18 points 10 months ago

Trump is a lying sack of shit.

[–] Skydancer@pawb.social 18 points 10 months ago

Well, yeah. Anyone who had expectations is now feeling shattered.

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Love to say it, even hard core republicans I know are regretting voting for the orange clown. Just yesterday one of them told me that. Trump’s reality distortion field is starting to fail.

[–] Jode@midwest.social 19 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Usually I dismiss thilese anecdotes but I am experiencing it too. Our company had a meeting with all of the field techs/machinists to explain how the "no tax on overtime" really works and I'll tell you what, it's not exactly "no tax on overtime". Considering we basically run on overtime that rug pull may have been the last straw for a few of the red hats I know.

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Hitting them in the selfishness is the only thing they understand.

[–] fittedsyllabi@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

It did shatter expectations. It’s supposed to be good, but it’s crap.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

Clearly, he's talking about the expectations he had for himself vs going to jail. I'm just as surprised.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 10 points 10 months ago

Distraction.
He's a rapist, and on the Epstein list.

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I expect all his policy to be shit. So when it's always shit I'm never surprised. Because he is a grifting carpetbagging sack of flaming shit. A tragic waste of functioning organs. The world's most notorious oxygen thief. Also he is a fucking moron. If there was a photo negative of Mensa where stupid motherfuckers competed to see who the dumbest motherfucker of all the dumb motherfuckers was, he'd be it's lifetime appointed leader.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Funny you should bring up Mensa.... Not the brightest people, more like a bizarre cult. He would fit right in.

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

He'd love it. A bunch of dorks circlejerking about IQ numbers?!

Hog Heaven for a narcissist.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 months ago

Lol so true. I had to help a group of them figure out how to use a key card to a hotel room, then heard Jamie Loftus podcast on them and it all made sense.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Are we going to talk about his dementia?

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 9 points 10 months ago

I mean, who do you believe the most, Trump or data? Don’t let me know.

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Well, if he expected a total Crash and instead got only mild recession, it still "shatters expectations"

[–] mondomon@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

No shit, where's the unredacted list?

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

He truly is the dumbest fuck of all dumbfucks to have ever walked the earth.

[–] Birch@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

Well, data is fired.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Where’s the fucking names Donald?

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Well, the way economic growth was stunted by Trumps failures probably shattered his inflated expectations.

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Trump looks terrible. Good.

[–] snipon@feddit.dk 3 points 10 months ago

I am pretty sure he means his own.

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

The crazy part is it really doesn’t shatter anyone’s expectations. Everyone expected it. Either the magidiots already believing it’s great and everyone else who knew it would be shit and we weren’t surprised.
