My city votes down building a tram. A big part of the argument was how ugly the overhead wire would be.
Based upon my experiences, it's not the overhead wire that makes a city ugly. It's horrible parking lots we have instead of buildings, but apparently the parking lots are a-ok for the people here. We even gave a parking garage official historical building status!
They did vote in a BRT line. It is currently planned to be started in... 2030.
