Unless there's someone to work on the actual emulation layer, yet another Yuzu fork won't help anything.

Since then, Citron has focused more on closing its community, requiring users to prove they have a modded Switch to unlock certain features.

Unfortunately, this is a Nintendo lawsuit thing

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 60 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thanks android authority for putting this shit on blast. Nothing like keeping this quiet

[–] alehel@lemmy.zip 24 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Considering they have a public website and repo on GitHub for the project, it's not like Nintendo doesn't know about them.

The download link returns a 404, is it already down?

[–] alehel@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 year ago

I think it's all a placeholder still. Blogs missing for instance.

And what's gonna keep this one from getting taken down by Nintendo?

[–] rivan@lemm.ee 39 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The time needed to build a lawsuit, usually about six to ten months

[–] Beacon@fedia.io 19 points 1 year ago

I would guess that it would be forced to be taken down immediately, and then litigation would determine whether it can be put back up.

Unlike Ryujinx they should try to have redundancies in case of Team members leaving and be willing to boot and ostracize members who attempt to sabotage the project. The other piece would be to either develop from regions where Nintendo has no legal leverage, or try to stay safe with cleanroom and PR techniques (losing battle since the USA is crooked when it comes to IP and freedom).

Also hey it's the other NEO of Lemmy.

[–] theangriestbird@beehaw.org 16 points 1 year ago (2 children)

hopefully they don't start a patreon like the other devs.

Is there a Patreon with crypto? Lol

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Same thing that's kept all the other emulators from being taken down: not being illegal.

[–] maxprime@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 year ago (3 children)

What was illegal about ryujinx?

[–] DebatableRaccoon@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nintendo decided it was. Nothing else, to my knowledge.

[–] rikudou@lemmings.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nah, Nintendo decided to offer the dev money so he stops working on it.

[–] DebatableRaccoon@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

True but I dare say it was quickly followed with an "or else". We do know about Nintendo's mafia, after all so only offering the nice hand feels very off.

[–] Dudewitbow@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 year ago

it was less illegal and more the dev took money to quit it.

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I got it via Emudeck and just a few days ago got another update. So I guess... No?

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's probably the GreenDev fork

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

Totally possible, I am not very deep into Switch emulator lore.

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 21 points 1 year ago

Get it before the authors get sued into the afterlife by Nintendo!

This guy is Any% speedrunning a DMCA takedown from Nintendo.

[–] alehel@lemmy.zip 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Seems they're self hosting their gir repo. So a DMCA is going to be a lot harder for Nintendo.

[–] DieserTypMatthias@lemmy.ml 1 points 11 months ago

If they host the instance on some VPS, then it is possible.

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

That was fast.

If I had a modded Switch, wouldn't I just fucking use that?

[–] Stez827@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

Maybe you want higher resolution or higher frame rates than the switch can do

[–] Goretantath@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I have an unpatchable switch 1, its shit compared to running the games on PC in higher res at 60fps. Also the battery life sucks ass so I can't play on the go for long enough.

And it'll be nuked the moment it announces its existence publicly.
