No, I think it's just an incident that tankies literally can't help outing themselves as fascist bootlicks over. That's why it's so useful - it's an obvious situation where the bare minimum response is "A massive overreaction by the Chinese government that resulted in the butchering of protesters" and 95% of tankies respond with "CIA COLOR REVOLUTION DANGEROUS STUDENTS THE PEOPLE'S BOOT WESTERN LIES"

Usually the tankie nonsense doesnβt really bother me. This one got me. Idk, maybe the boycott of .ml is the right idea. This is basically the same as not wanting to have anything to do with the openly nazi instances.
I was already boycotting .ml. As soon as db0 decides to setup a piefed instance, I'm outta here totally.

Just posting in case you missed it.
I'm also strongly considering switching if it happens. Will see what apps are available and how it compares to Lemmy. If Lemmy instance blocks blocked instances with all of their communities and users I'd likely just stay, but blocking the instances from my side still allows me to see hexbear and .ml users all the time, so it's useless blocking.
Don't worry I expressed my interest there. If they decide otherwise, I'll find a different piefed to call home.
