Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

A 27-year-old man was killed Monday after opening fire at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, authorities said.

Federal agents returned fire at the man, who had an assault rifle and was carrying a utility vest, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez told reporters Monday morning.

Rodriguez identified the suspect as Ryan Louis Mosqueda.

Law enforcement said they found another rifle and more ammunition. Rodriguez said the man’s motive is currently unknown.

One officer was injured in the shooting. Rodriguez said it was unclear if the injury was from shrapnel or a bullet.

Going by recent history?

Probably for not nazi-ing hard enough.

[–] Mamdani_Da_Savior@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I dunno, ICE is giving a lot of motivate for people to target them.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 12 points 11 months ago

Yeah. It really doesn't have to be political brain rot anymore.

Maybe it's not in this case...we'll see. But we're going to have cases of complete normies going "nothing left to lose" after their loved ones or friends are taken/killed by ICE.

Imagine finding out your partner/kids were taken from their job/school. You can't. I can't. There is no law or order that matters to people when the "law and order" are the ones doing it.

And at some point, hopefully, we all realize that those people are the sane ones. The people standing by and watching it happen well...

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

Right? Remember when "because they were fucking Nazis" would have been the presumed motive?

Hopefully one day we can build a statue of him.

If you're last name is "Rodriguez" and you are still working for Border Patrol, you're a traitor.

Oh man, you'd be surprised how many Latino white supremacists Nazis there are out there.

I'm Mexican. I shit you not, I've seen a very brown Nazi sporting a bright red t-shirt with a black swaztika and a shit-eating grin while strutting downtown in Guadalajara. I've never wanted to kick someone in the teeth so bad in my life.

There are a few random internet people who just live in my head for no reason. Back in like 2016 there was a guy on reddit who would sign all his posts with: Latinos for Trump. I was like: all right, this is the most blatant russian AstroTurf i have ever seen. And i did for the first time ever look through his comment history. Mainly to feel smart, there was nothing I could do with that information. I went back so far, and it was apparently just an average, seemingly nice latino dude who was super into trump. And i never really figured it out why.

Where's all the people complaining about the lack of people trying to start stuff with feds?

Almost like fighting the way they want to be fought doesn't accomplish Jack and shit.

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 20 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This tracks exactly with what I say; one person alone can’t do shit.

I bet the story would’ve been quite different had there been 10-20 heroes instead of one.

Solo running a facility as if life is an FPS game where you can just super soldier and out aim everything wasn't the best of ideas.

No he didn't. Unless he robbed an army base, he probably had a regular old AR15

For anyone else curious about the relationship to ICE, here is what I found on Wikipedia, with each → pointing to a parent agency:

US Border Patrol → US Customs and Border Protection → US Department of Homeland Security

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) → US Department of Homeland Security
