Tldr: what’s a cheap head strap that can hold me over if I can’t get the ego kit

First of all I am in the 2027 reservation queue, so this is not a time sensitive matter. Also in the waiting room for my optometrist as we speak so I was gonna order the Zenni lenses after my appointment.

BUT TO THE TOPIC AT HAND (or I guess head). I’m planning on having this as a temporarystrap as I’m planning on getting the ergo kit, but am assuming they’ll be sold out, so this is just something IF it’s sold out and to hold me over till I can get that kit so price and longevity aren’t really a concern. But ideally I’d want to buy from Amazon.

I’m also probably gonna wait till after I have the frame, cus I don’t want to get a headstrap if the stock unit is comfortable enough without it

I personally wouldn't worry about it this early. Even if you get bumped up to December 2026, there should be a lot more Frame accessories available then due to people now having the hardware and CAD files releasing.

I haven't actually pulled the trigger yet, but I'll be grabbing the 3D printed top strap and controller straps CButters has for sale. They're quite cheap. I got my Frame a couple weeks ago, and the stock setup has been pretty good so far, so I'm not in a rush, but I'd like to have them as options at least, if only for demoing to others who might prefer them.

Yeah I'm not worried at all since I won't have the thing for a while, but sadly I have no experience with CAD nor a 3d printer. Appreciate the suggestion tho

Ah well then I misread. Looked on their store and the headstrap is only 8 or 9 bucks (already forgot) so that’ll be perfect to hold me over if I can’t order the ergo kit and need a top strap, thanks!

You're welcome!

I was sad I had missed the head straps and wrist straps, since I was sure I would need both. Turns out it comes with Wii-style wrist straps already, and I was able to just move the back part higher on my head and it was fine. I don’t think I’ll order them even if they stock up again.

Yeah most VR controllers have the default wrist strap. I currently have a silicon wrap with wrist straps for my quest and while their nice it's definitely not a necessity. I'm hoping the top strap isn't needed cus I've heard some people say its light enough to use without it, and others say it's usable without but they much prefer it.

I would suggest reviewing the CAD files for the Steam Frame, if you never used CAD software before you can take measurements from the 3D model. I would suggest FreeCAD but you may need to tinker a bit to get it working, but at least this way you can start working on a solution.
