The French presidential race has begun. For the first time since 2017, Emmanuel Macron won’t be a part of it.

And for the first time in her career, Marine Le Pen is the clear frontrunner, even after her conviction in a corruption scandal almost prevented her from running for public office.

Prior to the final ruling, her second-in-command, Jordan Bardella, had tried to force his way in as the strongest National Rally presidential candidate, believing that Le Pen’s judicial vulnerability might translate an into electoral one - a costly ambition for which he is now paying, after Le Pen fired his closest associates inside the party.

In short, the 2027 race is widely believed to be Le Pen’s to lose, after she launched her campaign around the themes of immigration and Islam.

She plans to hold two referendums: one asking whether the French population supports her plan to restrict immigration, and another on banning the hijab in public spaces. Both would seek to cement the legitimacy of structural racism and Islamophobia through majoritarian approval.

Why not let them vote, democracy will provide unfavourable leaders, but that is the great thing, they can be voted out again, democracy gives a peaceful mechanism to remove horrible leaders. It is by the people. Populism will win now and again, but so will rationality, this tug of ideals keeps the people engaged in democracy, to vote, make their voice heard.

Hopefully France is a constitutional democracy instead of a normal democracy, to make sure there are stops in place to stop the majority from oppressing the minority. That is the problem with referendums for me, asking an uninformed populace to make easy choices on complex issues. But this feeds back into becoming informed and engaged into politics.

Cute that you put populism in contrast to rationality, as if economic left wing populism (i.e. socialism) isn't rational

.world at it again

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 0 points 14 hours ago

This has to be sarcasm.

These and other fun fairy tales to tell your child before bed

That is the problem with referendums for me

So only SOME democracy is good huh? Those uninformed proles will just vote at random if they have the ability to decide directly

This is parody, right?

So Russia is about the contorl France.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 0 points 12 hours ago

You can always trust westerners to blame all their problems on foreigners

[–] MaxLemminist@lemmy.ml 0 points 19 hours ago

.world ladies and gentlemen

[–] EmmiLime@lemmy.ml 0 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

So Russia is about the contorl France.

Or, just hear me out. This is what capitalism in crisis looks like. It makes no fucking sense to keep externalizing fascism and racism to another designated "bad country". Need to own up to it ffs

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

France a fascist hell hole? Never!

[–] MaxLemminist@lemmy.ml 0 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

Maybe not. At least they have a population that will definitely fight back.
They're not gigantic pussies like the US

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Oh I was being silly, they are definitely fascist as fuck being one of the major producers of arms around the world.

Yes, they are very violent as well. So are most fascist countries. They definitely like to riot and destroy shit, but they never seem to have anything to show for it.

[–] MaxLemminist@lemmy.ml 0 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

You are indeed silly.
Sure their governments are nearly as bad historically as the Brits or US in terms of imperialism and like a lot of EU countries a large part of the population now is fascist while their leaders support the US fascist regime.
But despite your ignorance they have plenty social and worker rights to show for.
Because they also have plenty leftists that fought for them.
Which, like those social achievements in Unlike the US banana republic where leftists and rights are non existent.
They're just a bunch of pacified impotent whiny pussies consisting of fascists and fascist lite . So at least that France is worth saving, the US can fuck off and die.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (2 children)

That was a bunch of nonsense. Are you the defender of neofascist regimes?

Despite your complete ignorance that fascist countries cannot have "social or worker rights", which is unbelievable dumb, you do seem to recognize some of their obvious fascist tendencies.

No country is worth saving at this point. I do agree that US is the worst, but France is right up there and your ignorance to this fact is truly staggering.

[–] lemonwood@lemmy.ml 0 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

You're right to harshly critique all western countries, but

No country is worth saving at this point

That's just nihilist defeatism. Nihilists are nothing but losers who like being losers. They hate everything but refuse to do anytime about it. They believe their lives are meaningless, so proceed to live meaningless lives.

Instead, why not use your sharp critical thinking skills to do something helpful: build class consciousness in people and prepare the revolution. Read marxist leninists theory and teach others! It's very easy to get started

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

You thinking I came to this conclusion lightly is your issue, not mine.

[–] lemonwood@lemmy.ml 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

So you came to this convenient conclusion of an easy, boring, sad way to live after long hard thinking and then just gave up? If you're really used to hard thinking, you won't mind some more: try reading the list I linked to find out how you're wrong in three ways: historically, philosophically and politically.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

No, after careful study of various countries histories I came to this conclusion. Frankly, most countries should be disbanded including all the major ones like US, China, and Russia.

I am all for creating the first "country" worthy of human beings. Until then I am not giving lip service to the idea that current countries can be fixed. They can't. They are all exploitive and will destroy their environment given enough time.

[–] lemonwood@lemmy.ml 0 points 14 hours ago

Oh you're talking about states, not countries, then sure, only on the ruble of the burgoise state can socialism be build.

[–] MaxLemminist@lemmy.ml 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

ahahahaa you are funny.
In a carricatural clownesk way

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

You totally convinced me... that you act like an idiot.

[–] MaxLemminist@lemmy.ml 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

[–] MaxLemminist@lemmy.ml 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Please block me. If I never have to see your fascist apologizing loser ass again it would be a blessing.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 0 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

this centuries' fascism serves the US.

[–] MaxLemminist@lemmy.ml 0 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Last centuries’ fascism served the US tremendously.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 0 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

they used to benefit from fascism. they still do, but they used to, too.

[–] XiJinpingStanAccount@lemmy.ml 0 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Ah, the time honored Western tradition of seeing tons of economic issues and saying, "Must be because of those [insert racial slur of the decade here]."

[–] waxrhetorical@feddit.dk 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Sorry, Western? Which parts of the world do not see politicians / others abusing the fear of the unknown/different?

[–] XiJinpingStanAccount@lemmy.ml 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Krinkil2705@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Oh you see, they put Uighurs in concentration camps and genocide 69 gorillions each days with cock-milking devices!

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 0 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It's a result of their superficiality, fear of people and poor judgement, on top of their propagandised, fully incoherent ideology. "Different colours/languages/dress codes scare me, they're a threat, so I hate them. Oh, I can't pay the bills? Well it must be the fault of these folks with different colours! Are they even people, like us?". That's it, that's the emotional and ideological for white supremacy and Western imperialism, in the cattle class.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 0 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

the propaganda is doing the heavy lifting here -- it makes sure that they're unaware of viable and sustainable alternatives so that the profits keep on rolling in no matter how bad things get.
