Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Not sure it matters that much, as the entire candy industry is operated by terrible companies. Is Mondelez International that much worse than Nestle or Unilever, for example?

I loathe Unilever for what they did to Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream.

Cunts.

As per USDA food regulations, hard pack ice cream can have up to 50% volume of air incorporated into it.

Before B&J's got bought out, you'd see maybe 10% (God knows I accidentally let enough pints melt over the years to see how much was in the container once I remembered - ahh.. shit! - that I'd left the ice cream to melt..) then after Unilever bought them, I did the same thing - forgot to get a bag with the ice cream out of the car in time - FUCK! - and opened it to discover that it was now down by at least a third in volume.

Oh hell no!

Not bought it since.

Fuck you, Unilever.

Though I can say that hatred makes sticking to diets easier. Doubly so when it's a hatred for the company combined with a hatred for the way they make chocolate.

If only my favourite ice cream wasn't made by an all round decent company cutting that out would be much easier.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hmm decent ice cream company, lemmy.ca... Is the man a fine chap? (If that makes no sense, my guess is probably wrong)

[–] BevsDad@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

One could say he's a chap man yes.

[–] MoffKalast@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Ahh so that's why it tastes weird.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

IIRC this is why they had to remove the Matterhorn from the packaging.

Edit: I remembered correctly.

[–] iamthetot@piefed.ca 12 points 1 day ago

Yup, unfortunately I love toblerone and had to give them up when I found out.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

It’s Philadelphia cream cheese all over again!

That's just the Welsh spelling of it.

*shortened version, the original has 371 characters. Some of them are from a parallel universe.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

That’s how I spell it from memory completely sober.

I made sure to buy a few "CERN" ones when i last went to CERN. They sell them there at their cafetaria.

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What were you doing at cern?

I used to go there somewhat regularly due to working on parts of one of the LHC detectors, but mostly for conferences.

[–] finalarbiter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Part of CERN is open to public, they have a museum and do tours of the facility. I visited several years ago when I was traveling in Switzerland.
