Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I hope every state does this, not sure what Trump’s reaction will be but also hope anti-immigration people don’t take law into own hands.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 61 points 11 months ago (3 children)

not sure what Trump’s reaction will be

probably remove funding on random stuff

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 28 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Tariffs! Mor Terriiiffffssssss!

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 28 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I would laugh my ass off if Donald Trump tried to institute a federal tariff on goods imported from California …

[–] dalekcaan@lemm.ee 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Wouldn't be surprised. Didn't he try to levy a tariff against Hasbro?

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

There are some bullshit earlier in the year about Donald Trump versus Barbie, but I thought Barbie was a pMattel product? I don’t really remember there’s so much BS going on that I can’t keep track of it all now.

[–] bendovertherainbow@lemmy.zip 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Hasbro and Mattel made a cross licensing agreement in the beginning of this year, so probably a Hasbro product with Mattel licensing or something.

I have never once thought that the Barbie toy manufacturers would be relevant in American politics but I guess my 3rd grade teacher was right - Girls who play with Barbies can be a part of local governance…

[–] jawa22@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 11 months ago

Barbie has been huge for politics but in a subtle way. It was the first doll made for girls that didn't need some kind of help (needing to be feed, being a literal baby or child etc.) and was represented as being fully independent. It was a huge boon towards letting girls know that they weren't doomed to be homemakers.

[–] bendovertherainbow@lemmy.zip 4 points 11 months ago

I'd actually prefer girls who played with Barbie's quite a bit more than the man who would sexually assault barbie, so I hope those girls will be part of state and federal too.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 1 points 11 months ago

Extra funny because a lot of stuff comes in from the ports of LA and San Fransisco.

[–] Sc00ter@lemm.ee 20 points 11 months ago (1 children)

California pays more in taxes than they use federal funding. Going after their pocketbook will only hurt the feds

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

Trump: "no give, only take" - probably

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 months ago

Tarrifs on California

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 10 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Uh, what? You try to kidnap my family and i am 100% taking the law into my own hands, immedietely.

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not talking about response to kidnapping, talking about the Pro-Maga response to cooperation with ICE being stopped by local governments.

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago

Ah i see, my bad.

[–] 5in1k@lemm.ee 7 points 11 months ago

Pop pop, pigiggity pop pop. I don’t give a fuck if you a motherfucking cop.

I keep telling people since before the election, one of the final steps in Project 2025 before completely destroying democracy is issuing Martial Law.

[–] Deifyed@lemmy.ml 85 points 11 months ago (1 children)

How is it not blatantly clear that Trump is there to wreck the economy and create civil chaos? Trump is the best thing that could have happened for Putin

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 23 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Putin has never invaded LA. Trump has.

[–] Spookyghost@sh.itjust.works 25 points 11 months ago

Same picture

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

Trump is just Putin's muscle.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 76 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Can all us blue states terminate our contract with our federal government? Fuckers are worthless. Worse than worthless they are a drain.

Let those worthless shit holes try to support themselves without blue states handouts.

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 18 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I would gladly pay higher state taxes to not have to pay federal taxes right now.

[–] Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 11 months ago

One million percent agree. Would gladly vote for anyone running on this platform.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 1 points 11 months ago

Make it income tax rather than sales tax, and I'm in. I live in a state that sends more to the federal government than we get back, so this would likely be a lower overall tax amount for me.

[–] Bremmy@lemmy.ml 62 points 11 months ago (5 children)

Why does any blue state have a contract with ICE?

[–] Ferrous@lemmy.ml 48 points 11 months ago

Why wouldn't they? Trump's border czar and Project 2025 contributor Tom Homan was literally an Obama pick to run ICE.

[–] Hozerkiller@lemmy.ca 19 points 11 months ago

Not sure about the outcome but the intent seemed to be to get ICE to play ball and hold people locally where they could get help and see family. Now ICE will have to take their ball (innocent people) and bring it back home (El Salvador)

Biden prided himself in having more deportations than Trump during his first term.

Both US parties are racist and classist af. The Dems just coat it with more pretense

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 months ago

My guess would be bribery.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 2 points 11 months ago

The headline says contract, the article says partnership.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

by shooting them in the face, or the lame way?

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works -4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

the decision to end the agreement DHS and ICE was “not made lightly.”

What the fuck even is grammar

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I bet "end the agreement with DHS and ICE" is what they were going for. Fire the editor.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

What the fuck even is reading comprehension

said in a statement on Sunday that the decision to end the agreement DHS and ICE was “not made lightly.”

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah they still accidentallied a word - bolding that changes nothing

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

I can comprehend fine, that's why that sentence doesn't make sense.

Yes, I know what they're talking about based on context and actually reading the article, but I feel like being a pedantic fuck right now because I hate this country and everything about it.

"The City of Glendale in Los Angeles County said in a statement on Sunday that the decision to end the agreement DHS and ICE was “not made lightly.”"

They just threw in "DHS and ICE" without any forethought into how it will work grammatically with the existing sentence structure. It's piss-poor grammar. And it pisses me the fuck off.
